Yeah that's what I did (LIRF), just got me thinking about potential opportunities for doing something I actually enjoy for a living. For now I'll just be leading runs with my local club.

^^^ & ^^ i'll see about a London trip next year then!
^ i'm not sure there's much money in CIRF. Was advised better to go Personal Fitness Trainer route when I last asked around.

Personal Fitness Trainer
Eww

I know, more potential income streams though as not everyone willing to throw money at someone for help getting fit wants 'running' fitness.

Hmm yeah, I figured as much. That's the problem with the things you like, no one wants to pay you to have a good time!

Well fuck, I got a place in the Shanghai Marathon ballot. Better do some running.

I'm going to give the 20m 5k training plan a go.
Does anyone have a handy miles to km per min pace converter?
Also, I have a Garmin Forerunner 235. Is it possible to set it up in some way, so it beeps / laps with the times I give it for laps / reps etc?
Cheers

For reasonable accuracy (off the top of my head), 1 mile = 1.61 km, 0r 1km = 0.62 miles. So 10 miles = 16 km / 10km = 6.2 miles.
Some rougher approximations which come in handy for on-the-fly estimates:
3 miles = (a little under) 5km
5 miles = 8km
Commit these to memory and you get the hang of things pretty quickly.(Not to mention 26.2 miles = 42.195 km, always a handy one to remember!)
If your Garmin 235 is like my 220, you can pre-set intervals/rest periods of either distance or time, under :

You can setup more complicated workouts on the Garmin Connect website (Training -> Workouts) and then sync them to the watch (via the app on your phone). I do this for my interval training, see example pic:-

You can use Fibonacci numbers (though obviously they round to integers)
2 m = 3 km
3 m = 5 km
5 m = 8 km
8 m = 13 km
13 m = 21 km
etc.which gives e.g. 26 miles = 42 km which is close enough for most. Perhaps easier to do addition than multiplication by 1.61 in your head.
Edit: For maths nerds this is because the golden ratio is numerically very close to the mile-to-km conversion factor, and the limit of the ratio of successive terms in the Fibonacci sequence is the golden ratio. Good to 0.5% ignoring the integer rounding.

Bloody hell. Every day's a school day.

Ah, that's very neat! Not sure if I ever made the connection.
As it happens I was admiring this over brekky this morning. Lovely!

What do people recommend from Asics and/or Nike for road running?

• #18840
Long steady = GT2000
Racing short = DS Trainer (or racer) -

That fibonaci thing is bonkers. The video nice but baffling!

GT-2000 6? They’re $120 here (plus sales tax), what would the equivalent Nike be would you know?

My gps fucjed tonight's run. It straight lines me from random spot near Whitefield to near work in 28s. Reckons I ran a hm in 62 mins.
Is there a way to correct the gps file if I use the start point from other runs starting at my work?

Going back to the time I wore Asics, they were a very similar fit to Brooks in the same size. So might be worth having a look at Adrenaline if you'd consider Brooks. (I'm currently loving Brooks Ghost, which is the neutral trainer without support.)

Pegasus 33 are good all rounders.

What do you guys use to hydrate on longer runs? What’s in between a bottle in the hand and a backpack with bladder? One of those belt things?

I got a place in the Shanghai Marathon ballot.
Good luck hats.

Yeah!!! Felt a lot better today, super happy with that.
Now to actually start doing some mid week running, unlike this week that I said I would but didn’t.... (sorry @alialias )
Im not gonna credit all of that to my new technical tshirt, but bloody hell its a lot better than running in a plain old tshirt that ends up drenched in sweat.

I’ve been plodding around recently - went for a long spell of no running. A 20 minute 5k seems like a distant dream right now, despite running one a few years ago. Id be over the moon with a 24 minute time.
It's definitely on next year, Sunday September 1st.
I had a great time not running and cheering everyone on. The heat in the early races was pretty brutal, didn't stop @doubleodaveythough!
