  • Understood. Context is everything

  • Even more intriguing; what are your reasons for a non-vegan lifestyle?

  • Not sure yet... either a Focus or Canyon. Hoping to get a cheaper 2018 at the end of the year

  • Interesting answers all, currently because my oh and I enjoy eating meat, but I understand everyone’s replies and I where with a number of them. Especially about how the animals are kept / killed purely for our benefit and that of course it’s simply unsustainable!

  • Interesting, but you know I enjoy eating fucking animals.

    Welcome to the vegan thread!

  • I am posted as I’m looking to find out more information, please do not just belittle it. Yes I enjoy meat, but I also think very hard about it and how we are bringing up our daughter etc. I guarantee in years to come she would question the reality of killing animals to eat them.

  • Most of us used to eat meat too, myself included, and thought nothing of it because it was the "normal" thing. As soon as I questioned that normality, my whole view shifted. If you want to feed meat to a child, I think it's important they understand where that meat came from (it's a cow not beef, a pig not pork etc) and that it has to be a conscious decision to take the life of another living being for your own pleasure/taste. It should never be the default position that it's just the done thing. Then she will be informed to make her own choices when she is ready.

  • Didn't mean to belittle you, you understand how your post seems a bit funny though, right?

I have some vegan friends. Their two kids don't think of meat as food.

  • Hello. Sorry for spam but my friend is running a vegan, zero waste market this September 29th which is focused on cutting out animal products, single use plastic and waste. Come down and have a look! https://www.facebook.com/zeromktlondon/

  • Any recommendations for a vegan meal in soho?

Junk food or Asian preferred. Cheers!

  • Seitan ‘chicken’ burger from Mildred’s is nice. Veggie pret has a lot of options if you want something more casual.

Jerusalem Falafel in berwick street market is great (don’t know if they’re open on sat)

janetira on brewer street caters for vegans, Rosas Thai also has a few good vegan options iirc

  • Amazing aubergine chilli in Falmouth just now :)
Alto something pub thing in the centre of town. Loads of vegan options inc. pasties down here.

  • Any ideas what I can do with lots of rhubarb compote? Other than on yogurt or porridge.
Is there a way to bake with it or something?
I thought I'd ask here as I'm not into the Food thread.

  • Could bake it into flapjack as a layer or something? Or a sponge filling? Not much help, I would have eaten most of it straight out of the jar probs 😅

  • If it's still a bit summery where you are you could freeze it and whizz it with a blender and make icecream / sorbet?

  • Loads has been eaten, but there's sooooo much. I just don't want it going off.

  • Great idea, I'm going to do this. My wife makes ice cream from frozen bananas for our kids so I'm sure we could bung some of this in it too.

  • Compote freezes really well too.

  • I heard something awful today. A lot of wine isn't vegan

  • Yea. Fish are apparently needed to filter wine through.

  • I think 'bleeding' vegan burgers are extraordinarily pointless, much as I had no idea that certain omnivores actually want their burgers to 'bleed', but hey, everything probably helps a little:

  • Is isinglass used as much for clearing wine as it is for clearing beer? I thought that other non-fish substances (e.g., other kinds of gelatine) are used more for wine. Not that it matters that much, but I always thought that the clearing substances were generally waste products from other nearby industries, e.g. Britain has lots of breweries on the coast, a long coastline, and a (formerly?) large fishing industry, versus (Continental) wine production often being very far inland.
