The Gas Pipe Stem

  • I didn't have a stem that actually fitted me yet, so it was a bit urgent

The rest of us have been waiting 6 months too you know.

  • :-(

    Really sorry.

  • bitching on a forum for bike nerds.

6 months on from when I was meant to have the stem I ordered I don't, meanwhile cunts are papping up pictures of their second stems and punting them in the classifieds section. If you wanna call complaining about that "bitching" then I'm fine with that.

  • Nah man, I'm sorry that your getting caught in the middle of this.

  • Please apologise to Sam for me in person for causing so much fuss. I just wanted to share my excitement in this thread, didn't realise there were so many miserable fuckers who would take offence. Not getting involved anymore.

  • What's special about these stems then? Is it too late to order one?

  • First of all let me tell you how much I still appreciate this project! Only love for both you and Sam!

Overall the delays are okay with me, shit happens, Sam's running a business and not some kind of charitative fund, it's completely understandable. I'm not fussed about TvH or some others getting their stems earlier.

However, the radio silence over the last few months were making me (and probably some others) anxious not knowing what's going on. 'Omg some people got their stems already', 'whats going on', 'maybe mine got lost in the post'. That kind of thing. So, some general communication would've been nice.

Overall lots of love and no hard feelings.

  • Haha well it is substantially more ugly than other designer stems

  • I quite like mine

  • Yes. I understand. Thanks.

My mind is often elsewhere and Sam is not very online. He is welding instead :)

  • Sam is not very online. He is welding instead :)

As a person who lives on the internet and never leaves home I have no idea what you're talking about. What's this welding you speak of?

  • Not custom ;)

  • I talked to Sam just now. He felt really bad about people getting frustrated and said he will make an attempt to knock out all of them very shortly.
    Hang on guys!

  • Not to be a pain but since I ordered my stem I've actually sold the bike I ordered it for. Assuming Sam has not yet started mine, would it be possible to change the dimensions to something more conventional so I'm not left with an ugly lump of a stem (85x80) that I will be obliged to build a bike around ;)

  • He's already cut them all up so call him tomorrow.

  • Thanks, will do. For what's it's worth I appreciate your efforts in trying to coordinate this and would like to gently remind everyone that we're getting a custom handmade stem for less than half what most places charge.

  • If it fits with what he has cut for me you can have that, if not I'll offer to make you one to the size you want.

  • You and Sam are the internet heroes we do not deserve.

  • That's very kind. I'll pm you.

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • I emailed Sam for an update and asked if he could tell me anything about the other stems too so I could share in here, here’s his reply...

β€œYours is cut and will be welded this week along with a brazed one for cryptthing. Packet, mcamb and rodsaeten will go to paint if steve is back this week. He has a couple of stems also (not sure which off the top of my head) but he has been on leave for a little bit. I think after these there are only raw ones left so it will be less up to how long it takes to powder coat.

At the moment I am making them when I have a few moments free - again my apologies to everyone on the forum who is waiting. They will get their stems as soon as i can make them. I really should have made it more clear to everyone that this was going to be a bit of a slow burner as it is not for profit etc but also i got really busy all of a sudden. One day i will have another couple of welders working with me and we can come back to doing projects like this which are super important but for now after these stems are sorted i think i need to concentrate on building the business and paying for the workshop :)”

  • Thanks for the update, and all round effort.

  • And for the record, mine is πŸ’₯ πŸ’₯ πŸ’₯

    Phase 2; Threadless coming soon

  • ^ I'll second this - seen in the flesh last week, most splendid.
Nice to meet you @Batt, I enjoyed our chat
