  • Did hell of the north London today. Turns out all of these are gravel bikes.

  • Yes but which one is the best?

  • Was looking at the Kepler Disc frameset. Sale has gone so looking for any alternatives?

It'll be a gravel bike used 90% for commuting. So mudguards would be nice.

  • Hub geared Moulton obvs.

  • I like the illusion that the condor has a Moulton sized front wheel and the Moulton has a 700c rear.

  • I have mounted 700x28c road tyres for my 700c wheelset, really like it and the weight difference is noticeable compared to earlier 38c Vittorias. For 650b, I would like something durable, suitable for multi-day rides on different surfaces, not slow on tarmac but capable dry offroad too. Does anybody have comparison between 2.0 Maxxis Re-Fuse, 1.9 GK SK and WTB Horizons/Byways?

  • If you already have road wheels I'd get something with thread. Got defeated far too many times getting up loose surfaces.

  • This is partially the reason why I consider GK SK (or Elwoods but they are hardly available), is the 650x1.9 version reasonably quick on road?

  • What would you consider reasonable quick? I used WTB nanos and cross boss and they were decent, but not proper road tire quick. Tire wear is other consideration, knobs wear fast in the road

  • I understand that no knobby tyre can compare with a road one. I just want something not too draggy and durable enough so I could bring it on some week-long bikepacking trip on mixed roads (including sometimes long tarmac sections). Form the reviews it seems that GK SK should be able to match that, but any direct experience would be appreciated.

  • Challenge Almanzo/Dune or IRC Serac sand tyres are actually very quick on pavement.

  • I am looking for 650b though, 47-50 mm wide at best.

  • Maybe look at G-One? there's only 40mm and 57mm option, other choice is the G-One Speed in 50mm, they're slightly more race-like.

  • I understand that no knobby tyre can compare with a road one.

The G-one Allround gets surprisingly close and has good grip on dry dirt and short grass. I wonder if the tread-shape is actually pretty aero? Bobbles innit. Laminar flow bro.

  • Is that Talbot yours? Spotted it doing laps on friday, I think. Though I thought it said restrap x talbot on it...

  • yeah it is, but that weren't me!

That's matts old frame that he sold, saw the chap who owns it at brother in the wild a few months back.

  • Should I add "Just get some G-Ones" to the thread title?

  • LFGSS gravel bike, designed by committee:

    • Arkose
    • G-ones
    • 53/39 11-25
    • Front suspension
    • Bouncy stem
    • Dropper post

Anyone who deviates from the formula should be shunned and scorned!

  • Arkose

    G-ones
    53/39 11-25
    Bouncy stem

    FTFY

  • Dropper post

  • And to satisfy everyone, 25mm front and 2" rear. Swap 'em round if you want.

  • Sik fadze

  • as well as matte black

  • Yuss! I'm in at the eleventh hour!
