  • Any recommendations for providers of insurance? Pulling everything together for imminent arrival of furry little fella!

  • Sadly, none of the major providers do sleep insurance which is what I needed most when we got our pup!

  • I lost my heart to this one today. What's the breed?

Picture won't work search - Pippen the dog.

  • Does anyone wanna lend me their dog?
My gf really wants one, but you know the whole London thing, living in a shared house and no allowed pets!
It'll just keep her happy for a few hours :D

  • My advice? Put £50 a month in a savings account.

  • This is mostly sound thinking but you'd have to save £50 per month for 22 years to cover the vet bill that a friend of mine paid for his run over lab recently.

  • Why don’t you use one of the dog sitting apps? Means you can get a doggy fix without the long term commitment.

  • I did not know such a thing existed, thanks!

  • Right now I have four dogs I would cheerfully lend you, they have been little sods all morning and the bastard puppy has eaten ANOTHER trainer....

  • I'll happily look after those beauts!

  • That's insurance for ya! Gambling. I paid £35 premium a month for a spaniel that had a dodgy pregnancy and needed cesarean. hysterectomy and followups, none covered by insurance because it was related to pregnancy. Cost me £2,500.

  • Maybe get insurance and put £50 per month aside is the best advice :D

  • FFS, the dog just ripped a claw out chasing a tennis ball, again
I know I should bin them but he friggin loves it.

Now with added sulk in the cat bed...

  • Introducing BOB! C. 8 month old rescue lab / something cross by the look of it.

Day 1 in the flat after getting in v. late last night and immediately pissing on the carpet!

Toilet training currently difficult as plan of taking him out every hour stymied by the absolutely biblical weather here he is very, very unhappy about - is from Cyprus so unused to 13 degree Northern days with rain that could strip the paint off a car.

  • So we have just applied to adopt this little chap, a rescue from Romania. Home check arrange for next week, pass that and the little bugger will be ours.

  • You then have to get a Cavalier bitch a plate of spicy meat balls and learn the violin.

  • Oh he’s gorgeous. Congrats. Interesting that so many people are rehoming from abroad these days. I hope it’s a sign there’s lots of demand.

Certainly the places we’ve been looking for a companion for our little rescue dog seem to have really fast turnover of all breeds.

My wife wants a puppy but I feel dirt bound to get a rescue dog. Ours has been eight months of constant hard work and he’s still not properly socialised but it’s very rewarding on the odd occasion he’s not being a little sod.

  • When adopting a dog from abroad, do you need to pay for its transportation? Must be so expensive for a charity to cover it!

I've always wondered why people rescue dogs from abroad when there are thousands waiting for a home at any given time in the UK. I met a rescue from Singapore recently...cost the owners £2k to adopt!

  • I've always wondered why people rescue dogs from abroad when there are thousands waiting for a home at any given time in the UK.

Shelters/Charities can be a bit OTT in their requirements. A friend (vet) wasn't allowed to adopt from one place becasue she worked full time - the dog would have been going to work with her but full time employment meant no dog.

Tricky, they want the dogs to go to good homes which is understandable but it means a lot of people get turned down.

  • There's a place in Malta which houses unwanted dogs until they are adopted - you can volunteer to take the residents out for a walk, some of the residents are there long term as very few people want to adopt an ex-fighting dog, or very elderly dogs, so you can take the same ones out for months (if not years).

Are there any London charities in the South East that do this?

= I'd still like to take a dog for a walk at lunch when I'm WFH.
