Chapeau, that's amazing!
@Pifko - Congrats on the PB!
Kitchen decorating has been my main x-training activity this week, combined with general CNBA making this a light training week, so I've no excuses for not being fresh for the Canterbury Half Marathon tomorrow. This was originally going to be part of a long weekend of East-Kent seaside/camping fun, but what with the decorating but mainly the weather, we're just going to drive down in the morning. Looks like a hilly course, so no expectations on time but should be a good pre-marathon work-out.

Strong running from all upthread as always, chapeau!!
I came to bitch about stinging nettles. Context: I'm not being a wimp here, I get stung and scratched a lot, running through overgrown footpaths will do that, I'm pretty used to getting stung or caught by brambles and getting on with it. It's not a big deal, sometimes the stings tingle for the rest of the day but that's it.
But fuck me today my legs are a tingly hurty mess several hours after finishing my run. Do the stings get worse as the season goes on or something? I have no outward signs of the stings but never had pain like this. Probably my karmic payback for traipsing across several fields and climbing over fences in search of the footpath I was sure should be there (it was on the other side of the road heading in the other direction to me and I was very lost). Bastard nettles.

Ok, that was not normal. Lost a fair bit of sleep to the pain from the stings last night, and they are still irritated this morning. WTF nettles?

^ antihistamine worth a try?

Xc fixtures are out, 3 of 5 rounds are within 1 mile of home, happy days.

• #18784
One mile!? Spoilt for choice, I think all of mine are 45 minutes to an hour away!
-
• #18785
Yes, if it's that bad again definitely!

All the Surrey League x country are miles from me. But that's what you get when you move away.
On another note...
If anyone is in SE London this Sunday it is the Ladywell 10000 at Ladywell Arena, Catford. The twenty five lap fun starts at 1 pm and finishes around 7. There is beer, pizza and cake, alongside the tremendous racing. It's like Highgate but even friendlier!

Oh joy, can't wait! ;-) In fact, I must have masochistic tendencies because I've volunteered for race-pacing (again) prior to my race. I'll be running (something like) 6k of whichever race has people targeting sub-40. They'll be on their own with 10 laps to go, that's beyond my warm-up comfort zone.
Canterbury Half Marathon went OK yesterday. Times pretty meaningless compared to a flat race, since it involved nearly 1,000ft elevation, but I had the satisfaction of finishing strongly to overtake a very handy V40 club mate in the final mile, for 8th overall and 1st V45. We also won the team award, which was a bonus because when I turned up I didn't even know others from the club were running. My even handier V40 club mate won overall in a course record 1:11:52, impressive enough but then he is hoping to run 2:22 or thereabouts at the Berlin Marathon in 3 weeks.
I somehow managed to motivate myself to get to the track this evening for a cut-down mile reps session, nice post-race loosener. A good sign of fitness coming back when HM recovery is better than 10k recovery a few weeks ago.

I've offered to pace as well, particularly as I'm not racing but haven't heard anything yet...
Good work at Canterbury!
And I think there are still some places available if you have unwittingly been training for a 10000m track race all summer.

I'm racing at 1pm. Worst training regime ever, can't be bothered to go out tonight, so my weekly mileage is around 4.3 miles so far.
I'm hoping I don't drop out or come last. If I avoid both of them I'll be satisfied.
Looking forward to it though!

^ rest is training too. After a gentle 10 sunday a.m. i've done nowt ahead of Sundays race so hoping similar approach works for us both.
Worst case 6 x 10-15s off 45s recovery the day before seems to have helped me get legs ready for recent 5k's, so that'll be my Sat session here (sandwiched inbetween 10min wu & cd). Might jog tomorrow a.m too if can get out of bed.
@alialias how's your knee? What's your thoughts about Sunday?

I'm commentating on your race. I'll give you a shout.

ha! I look forward to it
I wonder if my song gets played?

Anecdotally, but I think this is backed up by scientific evidence, the strength of nettle stings increases in late summer. I’ve definitely been more tingly after off road bike rides at this time of year.

I walked to uni tues and weds, painfree, and today tried the bike, again painfree. So not bad really, but I'm concerned about the lack of any running done on it for 2+ weeks.
I'm going to go, if only because it's been a long-term foolish plan with 2 mates. I'll run, relatively gently, until it hurts, then walk/hobble. Probably not a great idea, and maybe not very 'race spirited' but hey!
-
• #18795
Phew, I'm not being a wimp!

• #18796
concerned about the lack of any running done on it for 2+ weeks.
That won't be as bad as you'd reckon given you're fit and active anyway.
Painfree is good sign, worth giving it a go as you describe see how you get on. Maybe worth a short shakeout jog tomorrow or Sat as a test?

Big weekend in the alps, and trafford, and ladywell!

Like the kids at Parkrun. He's over 1hr behind leaders now apparently.
I know it's his "style", but it looks v.poor strategy when it doesn't work.

Enjoy Ladywell folks. Any social media we can hook into, faceache live even?
