  • you kinda agree that racism and the use of racist slurs is bad without exception? cool good to know.

  • Or he could have meant the other two points which were much less clear cut, but ignore that eh!

I'd say one of the points which is not generally helpful is the idea we can divide people into "good" or "bad" people and we somehow have to decide if McCain is one or the other...

  • "Regarding military action against Iran, McCain has said, "I pray every night that we will avoid a conflict with Iran." He has also said, "There's a whole lot of things we can do before we seriously consider the military option," but clarifying, "I still say there's only one thing worse than military action against Iran and that is a nuclear-armed Iran." His comments regarding "bombing Iran" made to veterans in South Carolina have come under scrutiny, despite McCain's statement that the comments were made in jest."

  • this is the problem with the centrist liberal trend of attaching yourself to politics without ideology. everything becomes relative to the point of being meaningless. One day you're gaily cheering Obama's victory and then you blink and suddenly you're defending John McCain because he wasn't quite as horrible as some of those other horrible republicans.

what do you actually believe in? civility in politics? what politics? ask yourself some questions. you can accuse people of being ultra-partisan or whatever but at least i'm able to follow my position back to some kind of consistent ideological platform.

  • made in jest

big lols all round when a man jointly responsible for making decisions whether to bomb civilians jokes about deciding to bomb civilians.

  • I'm not suggesting it was funny. I was pointing out that he was not of the opinion that military action against Iran was desirable.

  • Surely what really matters is that he voted in favour of pretty much every foreign intervention he could?

  • You know, if you spend a bit of time reading through his voting record, the accusation that he was a war monger doesn't really stick. Apart from fighting in an actual war that is.

  • Thanks for the invite, but I'm afraid I'm not going to play that game. Misrepresenting someone else's position in a debate has a long and ignoble history, but by the time you end up having to misrepresent your own position it's time to abandon ship with all hands.

Just in case you need a clue what I'm going on about, why don't you try my game? See if you can spot the odd one out:

    1. John McCain is 'an imperialistic racist who dedicated his entire career to fucking the poor'.
    2. 'the world would have been better off without John McCain'.
    3. 'john mccain was not a good person'

One of these things is not like the others. Can you tell which it is?

  • nope it's going over my head i'm afraid. you can try to make popcorn out of this all you like but try playing the ball rather than the player and actually counter one of my statements.

anyway if you can hate trump without also hating mccain it's hard for me to undestand why you hate trump.

now get back to hating trump - the world needs the #resistance!

Trumps whipping up the evangelical right ready for the midterms

  • He knows he'll need all his core voters out, so will say anything. Pretty standard.

  • He supported the Persian Gulf War, the Iraq War, the invasion of Afghanistan, and during his 2008 campaign sang 'Bomb Iran' to the tune of some horrible Beach Boys song. He also praised the 2014 Israeli bombing of Gaza which killed over 2200 people. He favoured military intervention in Panama, Grenada, and the Balkans.

He did however oppose intervention in Somalia and Haiti citing a lack of US interests.

Would you settle for 'war enthusiast'?

  • I have seen no evidence to suggest that he liked war.

  • He seems pretty happy about the prospect of it here
    https://youtu.be/o-zoPgv_nYg

  • You're right. That video of him making a totally inappropriate joke to a bunch of war veterans proves that he adores armed conflict.

  • Overall I think he was quite divisive. Running low on popcorn here too.

  • A joke? He's a senator and presidential candidate being asked a question about foreign policy. It's cute how he sang it over that old song though. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

Anyway, now you've seen evidence to suggest that he liked war.

  • Fucken hell.. that will get votes as well.

  • Meanwhile, when the (frankly fucking scary) actor's mask slips just a bit...
