  • You can select CL on the CK’s I’ve checked and thru axles too.
These are going on a custom steel race bike being built by a lfgss family favourite brand.

  • Perfect. Can’t go wrong with CK, just bear in mind that they’re expensive to service/do actually require servicing whereas a set of Hopes will just go forever and if servicing is required, you can do it yourself very easily.

HED Belgium’s are also expensive to replace at £140 a pop, as I’m sure you know, if they get damaged. With that said, they’re the finest alloy rims in the world and aren’t going to wear away as you’re using discs.

I wouldn’t buy bitex/novatec for a custom bike, personally, because they’re not special. Even if you crash, the hubs’ll likely be fine, so no reason to not buy nice hubs. And yes, I know you could of course build some kinlin/novatecs that offer the same performance as the CK/Belgium’s but scrimping on a custom bike is dumb.

  • I used to race (actually race, as in pay money and have a license to partake in actual road racing) on 32 spoke Velocity Aero-something rims on Ultegra hubs. Not once in my entire(ly shit) career did I blame my wheels for losing me a race. I was able to crash quite handily and continuing racing on them whereas other riders would be tangled in carbon spaghetti wondering how they were going to afford next week's race entry.

Tune are a better choice IMHO. Cheaper, lighter, available in lots of colours, still 'special', and in my experience very reliable and durable. Easy to service at home with the Tune service kit which I think cost about £70. Having said that, I've never owned any CK hubs and they do look mighty purdy.

  • carbon spaghetti

    carbonara?

  • Had that as part of some long-weekend carbo loading the other night.

    It was disappointing.

  • Yeah, see, this is why Hope’s just make more sense to me. No proprietary tools needed.

If I had CK money at the time of having my Talbot built, I’d have gotten a rear CK to go with my Son dynamo instead of Hope. If you like nice things and have the cash, they’re just about as nice as it comes IMO.

  • CK headset 100% yes
CK hubs 90% of the time just no

  • CK headset 100% yes

If that's true, then Cane Creek 110% 🙂

  • fair, if they cost the same (hypothetically) CK 100%

  • It was disappointing.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

  • Carbonara is nice. It was a disappointing carbonara. Does that help?

  • The key to a good carbonara is butter IMO. The quality and the amount.

    Can be applied to anything.

  • I've never made a carbonara. Does it have butter in it? Just assumed it was a carton of cream and some bacon. Maybe I should DIY one so I know.

Expensive hubs are overrated btw. I do like American Classic with their grease ports. Everyone should love grease ports.

  • cream

    gtfo!

fry bacon in butter, low heat, add olive oil, take it out of the pan, add 80% cooked pasta to the hot pan with some pasta water (this is the main sauce, the emulsification of starchy water and oil), mix well, take off heat, once cool enough that the eggs wont cook add the egg, parmesan, black pepper mix while stirring the pasta, add the bacon back

NEVER cream. Good quality eggs though, rest can be cheap.

    And the butter?

  • black peeper

    Racist.

  • edited lol

    Still no butter.

  • there is!

which could equate to maybe Miche hubs, DT swiss being the parmesan

  • WTF am I thinking of then? I almost never eat pasta that's not 'red sauce' so have probably confused it with something french..

  • No wonder I was disappointed. I wanted the creamy one!
