  • It was indeed from a man in the pub, the same man who gave us free access to his 350 acre wood to exercise our evil pack of dogs, he is a thoroughly good man! Mrs B is currently doing double backflips and I am committed to about 4 hours of cleaning the damned thing to my standards tomorrow. I shall post pictures when it is gleaming. How is it possible that I can get this much car for less than the cost of a ratty MX5?

  • Porsche 906

  • @Colin_the_Bald looks like a really good purchase. Despite being time consuming, imagine it will be very satisfying cleaning the dust off and seeing how nice it is underneath.

Longest drive for the Eunos so far down to Cornwall and it didn't miss a beat. Did sit at 80 for most of the A303 and some nice twisty roads as I got down to Dartmoor. Do love this car.

  • What does the hive mind say? Sounds like lifters but I've gone through and done the preload twice already and they are all pumping up fine. Guess I could add another quarter turn and see if it gets better.

  • They are purty. But they sound like crap.

    Is that helpful?

  • I think the problem is you've accidentally installed a diesel tractor engine...

But srsly, I recall a clip from roadkill/Steve dolcich something to do with tappets/ rockers that are just noisy in some particular setup... Helpful I know, but it may be worth searching out.

  • The cleaning will be fun, in a sick kind of way.
Have you thought about new tyres and fluids? A year of rest does terrible things to cars perishables.

  • No worries there, it had a service, MOT and new tyres in May!

Jambon; you have the MX5 I wanted to buy, but couldn't find....

  • I was following one of these the other day (coupe not cab though), thinking it was a nice design.

  • Z4 coupe is a classic Chris Bangle bit of design

  • Miata turbo forum nerds have discovered Summit Racing sell valve springs suitable for 8,500 rpm for the mx5 at a cheeky $5 each. Looks like my 8k rev limit on engine rebuild is possible without massive expenditure.

  • Money has changed hands, the Z4 is mine all mine (actually hers), I pick it up in half an hour, let the cleaning commence.....

  • Is that all it takes on an MX5 engine? I wish it was that simple with mine!

  • Mk6 Golf R is what I'm planning when ULEZ comes in.

That or a Superb estate 280 remapped to 350ish

  • Want me to just send you links to good ones when they come up? Budget?

  • you cannot tow a trailer with a golf r. it scuppers my plan for an estate.

  • This has annoyed me several times recently. Both my car and my Dads VRS have 0.00kg on the vin plate as towing capacity

  • destined for a fucking diesel passat.

  • no offense, mashton

  • The Volvo came with a removable hitch, C55 not type approved. It would be handy.

  • no offense, mashton

It's alright. It does its job nicely.

But it's not ULEZ compliant. I'll have to do the Sainsbury's shop in the MG, which is historic class exempt.

  • Even the wagon? FFS

Destined for the Skoda Superb estate then. 30-35% off at the moment.

  • I didn't know so many of you were into caravanning...

  • Both my car and my Dads VRS have 0.00kg on the vin plate as towing capacity

Same with the RS6. Which is a pity, as I suspect it would make an awesome tow car.

  • If you're a risk taker then yes, if you're a little less risky then balanced standard rods too, and if you're not risky at all then you're wanting forged rods, decent rod bolts, oil pump and boundary gears but then you're good for 9.5k and you've gone beyond the cheap springs
