    Most people have come to that conclusion, I'm not going to argue with them as my drivetrain is neither crossover nor back to front, so I don't have the experience.

    Both riders on a da Vinci have a freewheel. IIRC, there have been designs without the jackshaft which provide only the stoker with independent freewheeling, i.e. if the stoker turns the cranks, the captain's cranks must turn too, but not vice versa
