• As myself and my long suffering partner are expecting the imminent arrival of our first child, I thought I'd get a Dad bike to celebrate. Its an eBay special but it really hasn't been used much over the last 28 years.

I thought Id give it a new lease of life..

  • Lovely, on the same journey myself.

  • Im after a wire basket for the front, suggestions most welcome.

I also have an eye on a Flite but cant bring myself to pay for for the saddle than I did for the bike.

  • Love the build, so many good dad bikes on here ATM. Get a wald

  • Where does the baby go? I use a hardrock as my dad biek too!

  • I like the @mi7rennie approach to the Dad bike and his kid seat in particular. I'm looking for one of these.
I like the idea of the wee one being in front.

  • Depends how big your kids end up! I went for the topeak seat on the bike- very protective and quick to take on and off

  • Second this, plenty of bikes in the functional thread with a small front rack and a basket attached. Going this route myself.

I had one of those seats for my daughter. It's really nice to have them in front as you can at least see what they're up to (asleep, awake, trying to touch things or whatever), but the draw back is that it makes pedaling difficult as your knees end up needing to be super wide to go around the seat. I probably couldn't manage more than about 30k before I needed to stop for awkward knee pain.
It is nice to be able to grab a kid and hold on tight / wrap them up if you do end up stacking. Pretty negative way to think, but it's nice to have that security.

  • The WeeRide is very forum dadproved, but smac's right about the knees thing. I have taken little fizzy out off road on our tho without too much mother.

  • I've just got a yelp mini for the nano one, no downhill though, which is a shame.
