Careful not to confuse the ME models, only the ME Super has the option for manual shutter selection. The ME and MEF are apeture priority only. I would also say that from experience using the ME Super in manual mode is somewhat fiddly using the small buttons to cycle through the shutter speeds.
As for other Pentax bodies your £300 budget should get you an LX body which is the very top of the range. If you're happy with full manual only then an MX would be my suggestion.
My K1000 is really heavy. I’m considering getting a Pentax MX instead, as it’s basically the same but smaller, but with some added features. I like them for their simple, easy to use metering system and renowned reliability. I find it very satisfying to use the K1000 and the only reason I’m considering getting rid of it is because of its heft. I have no other complaints with the camera. I currently only have one lens for it, so I’m in no way committed to the brand.
Is there anything else I should be considering? I’ve done lots of reading and generally the same cameras pop up. I have an Olympus Om-10 at home as it was my grandads and I didn’t really like the method of focusing - I don’t know what it’s called. But it looks like this: https://luminous-landscape.com/wp-content/uploads/2003/03/viewfinder.jpg However, I did like the size of it. It is much better for my relatively small hands. Do the other OM cameras use the same focus screen?
Key criteria would be a big, bright viewfinder, fully manual option (mainly for my own learning), an all black version is a plus and a good range of lenses obviously. This makes me think of Nikon. I know the F3 is well renowned, but it’s also known for its tank like build - so that seems like a sideways step.
West Yorkshire cameras have an all black Pentax MX w/ 1.7 50mm lens for £185. Iya the sameness lens that I have on my K1000. It’s very nice. I’d rather buy from a shop with a 3 month warranty over eBay. My budget could probably go to £300 for body only.
