  • My K1000 is really heavy. I’m considering getting a Pentax MX instead, as it’s basically the same but smaller, but with some added features. I like them for their simple, easy to use metering system and renowned reliability. I find it very satisfying to use the K1000 and the only reason I’m considering getting rid of it is because of its heft. I have no other complaints with the camera. I currently only have one lens for it, so I’m in no way committed to the brand.

Is there anything else I should be considering? I’ve done lots of reading and generally the same cameras pop up. I have an Olympus Om-10 at home as it was my grandads and I didn’t really like the method of focusing - I don’t know what it’s called. But it looks like this: https://luminous-landscape.com/wp-content/uploads/2003/03/viewfinder.jpg However, I did like the size of it. It is much better for my relatively small hands. Do the other OM cameras use the same focus screen?

Key criteria would be a big, bright viewfinder, fully manual option (mainly for my own learning), an all black version is a plus and a good range of lenses obviously. This makes me think of Nikon. I know the F3 is well renowned, but it’s also known for its tank like build - so that seems like a sideways step.

West Yorkshire cameras have an all black Pentax MX w/ 1.7 50mm lens for £185. Iya the sameness lens that I have on my K1000. It’s very nice. I’d rather buy from a shop with a 3 month warranty over eBay. My budget could probably go to £300 for body only.

  • FA, FG, FM10 even

Could sell you f100 also .. I want one Nikon body but ideally F6
