  • Iris optical do free lenses. If your perscription is under +/- 3.00 they'd be not too thick. Otherwise it's £50 for thinner lenses

Got a good selection of Frames. They don't do eye tests though, you take your perscription to them.

I always take an attractive girl along. Not so much because I value the opinion, just that at some stage she might say "yeah, you look really good in those" and it will feel nice.

This adds to the problem. Where do you get an attractive girl?

  • I noticed someone said they'd bought Oakley sunglasses and then sent to optilab for glazing! Thats like buying a MR2 and putting a ferrari body kit on :-)

Save for a few more months and get the real deal!

  • Optilabs lenses are fine.

  • Missing disclosure: simonextreme works for a company that sells 'extreme' glasses.

  • People all over the internetz swear by these people for re-glazing:

I need some new ones and plan is to buy a frame I want cheap as possible (probably eBay) then send it to them to glaze. Reasonable prices and they get glowing feedback (not used 'em myself though).

  • p.s - don't go to 'University Vision' in UCL, unless you want a prescription missing crucial information.

You would have thought they would realise that what with the internet taking all their business they would be wise not to piss their customers off. Short sighted fools.

    Just arrived today.
RX Insert, I'm giving contacts a try so can still use the same glasses.
    Interchangeable lenses.
£130 including extra lenses and RX insert.

  • You still wearing contacts for cycling?

We're trying to sort out something for the missus so she's not straining her neck looking over her stupid fashion glasses. Looked into prescription glasses but she was told to try contacts:

    Monthly Air Optix Aqua
    Daily AcuVue Moist
Daily Silicone Hydrogel sphere test pack from Boots

Not really getting on with them - this morning one of them was annoying her so much she pulled them both out and wore glasses but yesterday she wore the same type for ~12hrs (maybe too long and it irritated her eye?). I know fuck all about contacts so can't help her but you lot might be able to suggest some other brands/styles to try?

  • Not about contacts but @laner and @Cazakstan on our team wear prescription Tifosi Marzen. I have a non-prescription pair and can confirm they are great to ride in. They also come with two arm styles.
    -ad..

  • If it’s any help I wear Air Optix Night and Day monthlies.

I moved to them from dailies as I wanted something I could wear for longer periods if I went overnight camping for instance, so I didn’t have to take lenses out at night and put them
in in the morning with unwashed hands.

I very rarely actually go camping or anything but I like these lenses way better than the dailies. They are a bit stiffer which I find is actually a positive, they’re so much easier to put in than the dailies and they’ve pretty much never folded up in my eye or been blown out while cycling or motor biking which did happen with dailies.

Also I can wear them for like 36-48 hours without my eyes feeling irritated or dried out.

  • They're alright for cycling, even with the full frames? I've always hated full frame sunnies but she wears full frames now so maybe it's not a big deal for her.

  • Nice one, she's not tried them, I'll buy her a pack for her birthday ;)

  • I wear mine all the time when riding. Always with a helmet too. They're photochromic, glazed by RX optics. I'm really impressed with them.

  • I've sent her ma3k's link. She ordered a pack of M_V's contacts to try out too.

Today she went back to contacts with normal sunglasses over the top and reckons it was fine. So perhaps the issue is her eyes getting irritated one day and then rejecting contacts the next? I have no idea about contacts so don't know if that can be a thing or not.

  • you're pretty short-sighted, right? looked into prescription 'sports' glasses a few years ago but kept getting offered shit tiny lenses inside normal lenses because of strength of prescription.

  • (nope haven't looked back through the thread... )

  • I've got astigmatism in both eyes and I'm long-sighted.

I have to have casual frames because sports glasses have curved lenses which don't work with my prescription. I hated inserts so this is the best option for me.

  • I've got a fair amount of astigmatism and I use Oakley crosslinks. Nicely curved and sporty, but still can be graduated

  • If you irritate your eyes for any reason contacts get very uncomfortable.

  • I wear them almost everyday for riding and walking so I guess so.
    :)
Ditto the other two guys ^^^

The rubber on the arms and bridge is comfortable and keeps them in place well.

  • What's the best place now to get prescription cycling glasses online. Not somewhere to send of an existing pair. Order online, give them a prescription, receive ready to wear/see shades?

  • I got some Oakley Jawbreakers a month or so ago from RX Sport. I’d not ordered glasses or sunnies online before, but their website was simple to use and the order came bang-on the promised time. They also show you which sunnies can or can’t be used with your prescription as you search which makes life a lot easier!

They were done at Oakley so they’re well made, and they managed to cater to my -4/-3.5 prescription. I’ll be getting some normal glasses from them too in the not-too-distant future.

  • Not cheap; as the old adverts go they were reassuringly expensive. Obviously you have to buy the glasses off them in the first place so they can send them off.

By the time I’d chosen my tint and the quality of lens (I went to mid-range lenses so I could see over my shoulder better when glancing back through the edge of the prescription section), I think the whole lot came in at £370.

You can find them here https://www.rxsport.co.uk/products/Oakley-Jawbreaker-Prescription-Sunglasses-%252d-Grey-Ink.html.
