  • It would be a factor if everyone was riding extreme bikes - for example the F-Si Hi Mod team is 9.2kg and the equivalent SuperX is 7.2kg.

At the more normal end there’s probably about 1kg in it; the SuperX 105 is 9kg and the equivalent F-Si 9.8kg.

In the races I can ride my F-Si I wouldn’t be rocking the heaviest bike.

  • Do you ride the races you could rock your F-si?

  • Res! But not tonight as CBA.

  • Not quite the same but a friend of mine rode his cross bike at a 10 hour mtb race and came second.

  • At a local TT the regular winner apparently does it on a MTB.

  • I really want to believe this

  • I'm honestly not sure, but it's local to there (run by the Frodsham and Runcorn clubs).

  • Anyone doing the north west league this year? As it's my first season, I'll pick and choose which events I do but gonna try get to about half.

  • I still dont see how he could ride that course without crying on a cross bike, never mind come second over ten hours.

I am unfit, cant really be arsed getting fit and have a race entry this weekend somehow. May as well embarass myself.

Must have been an awful dull course.

  • What is the thinking man's intermediate tyre du jour?

Looking at the Vittoria Terreno Mix to carry me through most of the season- I bought the Specialized Terra Pro last year for when things get proper gloopy but never got around to fitting them and used WTB Cross Boss the whole way though

  • I use tubs for intermediate conditions, but if I was going for clinchers I’d go for the Terreno Mix. I’ve got the Dry and Wet versions and they are superb.

  • That's one less endurance race on my shortlist.

  • n00b CX question #406/5976:

when riding your biek (on roads) to a race, do you bother taking a proper pump with gauge so you can change pressures before and after the race? Or just ride on roads with soft tyres?

  • Usually there's someone with a car who'll have brought a pump that you can nick.

I've seen other people do this. Not me.

  • Mini track pump with a guage is handy

  • I've had someone ask if they can use my track pump. I can't think of any reason I'd ever say no. I've had to do the same at a TT when I forgot mine. Didn't have any problem finding one to use.

  • I've always asked nicely to borrow. And never been denied. Who wouldn't let someone borrow a pump? I mean, they might say no if they knew of my amazing spannering skills. But fortunately no one has found out.

  • The latter normally. But I take a pump and a gauge. Then use my finger and thumb to check pressures.

  • Don't bother setting to a pre-established pressure. You'll ride a sighting lap then let more air out anyway.

  • Hi everyone, I need to get back into this, still on a single speed though. Is the London and south east league the only one, do people take the train to the races? I don’t have a car no more! F-yeah, one less car and a ball ache, quite literally.

  • Thanks everyone. In the park now to practice some skills.

  • It's that time of year again. What dry grass/compact mud tyres do people recommend this year?
