I have never wanted to do hill climbs. Not once, not ever. But this thread is making me seriously consider it.

Anyone got an 11sp DT Swiss 240 freehub body knocking around? I think I may have a 10sp wheel unfortunately.

Machine it. Will save even more weight!
-
• #714
Yeah, that's the one I think.
I might give machining a go, but I my lathe is somewhat less than accurate. It'd probably just rip the freehub body to bits.

Yes! This is gonna be good!

It's that time of year again! Cant wait to see the end result.

And then you just end up buying a replacement. No loss really... Give it a crack mate!

Half an hour with a file and no weight reduction!
Cassette fits though I guess.

What modifications do you have to do to the freehub to make the 10-speed body fit an 11-speed cassette?
-
• #721
I have a 350 one that's just been serviced with new bearings installed. Not sure how they differ from 240 freehub bodies. Oh, just saw your pics and it's pawl, mine is star ratchet.

Disappear some metal from the lip where the cassette would bump up against.

Ahhh, interesting. Just looked this up on YouTube. I now wonder if I can squeeze all 9 gears of a 9-speed cassette (or for that matter all 10 gears of a 10-speed cassette) on a 7-speed freehub with a bit of careful filing. I need to check my spreadsheet. It sounds a bit random, but it’s to preserve the 126mm spacing but gain a few more gears.
ApolZ for teh thread derail...

I have read this thread with interest as I'm a newbie considering the urbanhillclimb.com.
Was feeling pleased that (on paper) I will get my old commuter Langster to 7.5kg cheaply but now think I may as well give up or start again with a lighter frame to be competitive on weight!

Thinking fixed, SS or geared?
Sadly I assume my HMX Addict is too small for you - superlight though!
