I began to read CMB as CMJ.....

Rory Burns has scored 951 runs in Div 1 at an average of 67.92 with 3 centuries, all whilst playing the role of captain as well. Granted I will always want Surrey's best interests, but he hasn't been given a go over Jennings is, quite frankly, fucking absurd...

I think it was worth giving Jennings another whirl but I'm surprised they haven't gone for Burns.

Mind you I'd still like them to go back and bring in Hameed (I know he's not in form) but I'd back him.

My only guess is there's something about his technique they don't like. It's ugly, for sure, but he's belted the runs for the last 3 years. God knows...

Burns not getting a go is mystifying, would currently select him over both openers. Hameed is not just out of form, i'm not sure he even knows which end of the bat to hold at the moment...

I’m sure it’s less ugly than an empty scoreboard. I’d rather him than another dashing 16 runs followed by a daft moment of lost concentration, which is what we’ll get.

Hameed needs to go and play club cricket for a year to sort his game out.

A winter playing grade level in Australia away from any pressure might be the best thing for him.

I think Jennings should be given the rest of the series. Just to make sure that he isn’t an opener for England if nothing else . I can’t see his weird front foot ‘assumption’ movement changing, but it’s not held him back for Lancs (I know, I know) and I reckon he can be part of a ‘modern’ opening pair, if he keeps his head on, which the top 6 cant seem to do atm.

Jennings deserves to stay put for the next two tests on the basis he’s been no worse than Cook and Root against the swinging ball.

Agree he has no form but I just thought he looked so at ease at test level and there have been very few of the openers we’ve tried where I felt that. Really hope he gets his mojo back because I think he’s a fantastic player.
