I rode my trek domane for Rapha HOTN last april. It was a mud fest and a hoot and have ridden it through Epping forest a few times this summer. It’s remarkabke what it can do, but it’s highlighted that I really should be buying a proper bike for the job

What size tyres will it take?

The domane is good for 32 - road tires with minimal clearance. It’s a road bike so the B.B. is too low for these kinds of shenanigans...
It served its purpose https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/318611/ earlier this year so I’ll sell on the forum soon

Terrible Terrible mud clearance at the rear.

Duly noted.
Seems like the superx and tcx have some of the best clearances.

TCX have legendary clearances.
And if you have T Rex arms like myelf amazing Geometry.

I’m blessed with a long body
And disturbing short arms and legs

My TCX was regularly defeated by mud, especially at Frylands Wood.

Carbon or Alu frame?

Aluminium. It had real problems with mud build up around the chainset.

Frylands defeated lots of people.
CAADX - canti and 105 = good
XLA - disc and same 105 group from above = also good
Not ridden anything else apart from Pompino and a trek hybrid for lolz at HH SummerCX.
If you just want to test yourself: the xla is decent.
