  • Strava link? :D

I don't do the Strava, but I can hook you up with GPX files if you want? Or join us tomorrow (clickable):

@andyfallsoff Pictures are taken around Utrecht/Hilversum. But have some equally beautiful routes for other parts of the Netherlands.

  • I'm not saying 25c is my ideal, but I ride what I have at the moment, and when I found myself on a gravel bit I have tarmac before and after. Plenty of people ride their road bikes on gravel in the summer with no issues (last year near Stockholm I was riding with a guy on a Venge and he smashed it). My point is actual gravel - you know, coarse sand, small stones - doesn't need or benefit from 2" knobblies, and the over-use of the moniker is tiring.

I think it's pretty hard to argue that a road bike with 25mm tyres is
    a gravel bike.

Yet they make a much more relevant choice on smooth gravel than a MTB with drops or 13kg tourer with a 70 gear inches top gear.

  • That picture is not quite on topic, but it's important to remember that road cycling back in days often wasn't on tarmac. Dat gear too.

  • tyres are still black and round

  • That picture is 70 year-old, if you think about it for all the so-called innovations the bicycle has not changed that much.

  • Stop talking sense, this thread is for hype so people can justify buying more stuff!

  • I'd like to see a gravel-Brompton with custom rear triangle & forks, 14" wheels and 2" knobblies.

  • Brompton on knobblies have been done before, but that was before gravel was invented. @furious_tiles would be the person to ask.

  • I've been thinking about welding up something like that. At least some discs on a Brompton.

  • Hard grav = 2 inch knobbly drop bar bike (just buy a hardtail) / easy grav = 25c ezpz / tarmax = G-one for instagram

  • great work Phil, now I want a silver bike again!

  • Funny, I want a grey one

  • What changes have you made man, apart from the paint and the Contact 2 tyres?

  • Have mine set up like a road bike rather than the way it comes with short stem etc.
    120mm Ritchey stem
    Zipp SL70 Handlebars
    Carbon Inline post
    TRP Spyres
Rival 22 groupset (without the front mech)
Red cranks with CX1 42t chainring
    Speedplays
    etc etc

  • " I thought all road bikes were gravel road bikes?" - Tom Ritchey

  • "Tom bo li de say de moi ya, yeah, jumbo jumbo." - Lionel Richie

  • Gearing way to high..

  • tyres are still black and round

    U wot M8

  • After being a functional city commuter, then a monstercross, I think my beloved Kästle now fits in here with its latest iteration.

  • Climbed Leith Hill loaded so I’d say it’s ok

  • What frame is that? Looks good, always have a soft spot for white/off-white bikes

  • Exactly.

  • That'll be @spotter lovely Giant TCX.

  • TCX as @jontea said, but with Focus mares forks.

  • Sounds like a great build. Will have to bear some of this in mind when I finally get my hands on mine.
