On the edit activity page (click on the pencil next to the spanner), there is a tick box for 'Hide from segment and challenge leaderboards'...tried that yet?

I haven't tried that or @alialias suggestion yet, I'm out riding at the mo but I'm gonna have a look this evening. Cheers for the info guys.
