all the mount you can dream of.
Anything cages on the forks...

46t still way too big for anything ‘proper’ off-road, let alone loaded

Edit: no, I can't get sucked into gear ratio chat again

Any source of price and date for the 105?

That's why there's a 30t on the inside. Lovely colour though.
-
• #5183
Yes please, if I hadn't already just built up a new bike. Resist!
-
• #5184
30t inner ring tho?
But yeah, even 11-34t cassette was barely enough off road with the 30t ring.
-
• #5185
But it’s too big.

• #5186
Don't do this to me!
I was just having another whinge about Shimano not making parts for low gearing. No one needs to hear it

Edit: do folks have a different perception of what a gravel bike is? That's the archetype IMO, I personally think that most so-called "gravel" bikes (as dubbed by the industry) are just road bikes with a tiny bit more clearance and one extra bottle cage. something something paradigm, modalities, other bullshit words, knowledge is porridge, etc.

• #5190
I'd see the above as an ATB, personally.

• #5191
Maybe the bars would put it in 'monstercross' category?

• #5192
Fuck it, it's a bike. I'll close the thread...

You're right, I was joking. And you don't need any lower gear than 30(front)/34(rear) for carrying that extra bottle and bigger tyres.

• #5194
just kidding, that's just like my opinion man
Edit: For my money @sensom 's Wolverine is maybe the best "gravel" bike of all time:
Importantly, more important than any of the component choices, he rides the shit out of it on real hardcore terrain (rather than arguing about ratios and definitions on the internet like me right now) and his write ups of the rides are pure art.

Is the Arkose still the recommendation from the Pinnacle/Evans range for a colleague wanting to do some bridle-way touring in Germany?
-
• #5200
I keep doing imaginary bike builds and purchases in my head, wanting something cooler but I just can’t fault my Arkose to justify replacing it. Such a capable bike though very boring in its otp build
Oh yeah, the 105 version of the new bike will have a 46/30t FSA chainset (new 105 R7020 hydraulic).
Finally a sensible ratios.
