  • It's also worth recognising that while some groups of people did quite well from cultural mixing and exchange in the past and really do benefit from various things, such as curry, money, cheap/free labour, spices, tea, dry hopping beer etc. Other groups might've got the shitty end of that stick in the past, with disease, genocide, famine, slavery etc. While it's not quite that black and white, and obviously no one living is responsible, it doesn't hurt to be aware of someone being a little precious of something specifically culturally important to them, and then avoiding bastardising and commodifying it too much.
