From the same thread from weight weenies:
Space could be tight.
Flattening your own spokes does not sound that difficult:
For example, it looks like the flattening isn't quite 2 mm across (the flats aren't quite even with the spoke diameter). Possibly it's around 3 mm or so. I would measuring to confirm, then maybe tape two 3 mm allen keys (or some other hard things which are the right thickness) in my vice and flatten each spoke head, with the allen keys functioning as a repeatable spacer or tooling stop.
So just squash them a bit in a vice...

I'm generally a climber, so lightweight is probably what I'm after, though I shouldn't forget about the other stuff too (cheers for sharing experience). My road bike in general ain't no featherweight though, that in mind.
Thing is, I've spoiled myself with the first set of road wheels I ever had being really light Dura-Ace ones for a great price. So I find myself wanting something similar again for not that much money. I've resolved to get some Hunt Aero road (maybe even the wide ones), they seem like the best compromise.

Not entirely sure that I'd trust myself to do this effectively, but I have a friend with a good mechanical mind, bike building experience & all manners of tools. Going to buy some wheels I can feel confident on for an upcoming tour (two weeks in the Italian/Swiss Alps!) in September, & then butcher the wheels & see what we can do later in the year.

Sapim Lasers.
Who stocks these and sells online at a good price?

These are now insanely cheap for a pair of 1600g wide rim tubeless ready clinchers.
Any reason why I shouldn't?
Edit - that's front only. WAC.
Still only £219 on Merlin though.

Now that you are able to buy components on the C2W scheme, I'm interested in getting some new wheels, but am struggling to find ones that meet my criteria
Road, carbon, disc
Around 19mm internal width
35-50mm deep
<£1,000The ones that fill the bill are;
Hunt - not available through C2W
Wiggle's Prime Black series (just launched) - again, not on the Wiggle C2W websiteI've had a read through this website, which I found very informative
https://intheknowcycling.com/category/wheelsets/
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could look at?
cheers
Steve

literally nothing other than Hunt fit that criteria so get a 0% credit card.

Or get some built with light bike rims? (Same problem re. C2W though)
-
• #8160
The same wheels ^ & ^^
-
• #8161
yes, what Phil said .. could literally be the same rims.
Not a huge diff between LB built wheels and Hunt. Thats why I went with Hunt. To support a local company plus customer service.

Ended up ordering a set of Hunt race aero wide as I managed to get 30% off through a friend. Couldn't say no for that price. Hopefully be here by the second week of August.
Tomorrow, the rims I ordered for rebuilding the DA C24s should come. Will measure up & order some spokes, but won't be dismantling/building until new wheels are here as otherwise my Donohue will be without wheels during the nicest riding time of the year (not that I don't have any other bikes to ride, mind). Figured that I may as well as I could always return/sell the rims if it ends up being a faff.

Don't suppose that discount is open to anyone else?

This friend is in the bike industry & got it through chatting at a trade show, says it's only worth a few uses so it wouldn't be fair to share I'm afraid!

No worries, was a cheeky ask. Let me know what you think of them. Probably going to take a punt when the bank account allows.

Rims! Wow, these Kinlin XR31Ts are really wide. Does anyone have a recommended spoke length calculator for straight pull spokes? My brother said the Sapim one is good, but it appears to be for normal spokes. He also sent me a copy of Gerd Schraner's The Art of Wheelbuilding, so I've got some reading to do.

Any chance you could get a video clip of the freewheel sound when they arrive?

So, to answer my own question..
Wiggle will do more than is offered on their C2W website - I emailed them and they sent me a quote for the Prime wheels - unfortunately my Wiggle discount doesn't apply to C2W
I then asked Hunt about C2W and they pointed me in the direction of Swift Cycles - Swift are listed as a supplier on my company's C2W scheme and are also a Hunt dealer, so I can order Hunt wheels through them
I think I'm going to go for the Hunts - there's no reviews of the Prime Blackseries wheels yet - just need to decide 30s or 50s

How easy is it likely to be for me to change the freehub on these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/prime-rp-50-carbon-clincher-wheelset-1/
To be 10-speed campag compatible with this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/prime-r010-r020-freehub-body-campagnolo/
What tools would I need?
-
• #8170
It looks like novatec so no tools (or maybe 2 spanners)
hub:http://nguide.eu/hubs/fs522sb-11s
pdf of internals:http://nguide.eu/sites/default/files/mysite/hubs/48/documents/FS522SB-11S.pdf
if the endcaps have flats for spanners you need that otherwise they just pull off.

Sure!

They came today. Haven't had a chance to ride them yet as my brake cable is now too short with the wider rims.

Nice one, thank you! I definitely want to buy the aero wides when I can afford it.

Anyone know if the JRA (justridingalong) Jawbone rear hubs can have their end caps swapped to make them TA from QR?
EDIT: Looks like I'm in luck...

It's a Bitex BX106R, so yes.
The Shimano spokes are proprietary with flattened spoke heads, but I've been playing with some old C35 hubs and some straight pull CX-Ray spokes and they seem to fit fine. I can see that the flattened heads would be useful when you're building them in a production environment, as it'll stop the spokes twisting when you're building them up, but at the moment I can't see any reason why CX-Ray straight pull spokes shouldn't work. Haven't got round to actually using them in a new wheelset though, although I do have the rims I need to reuse them.
