Does the tank need to be removed to do the pump? I replaced the pump in my old dc2r and it was accessed from the cabin, under the rear bench
Actually I'm not sure - I'd assumed it did, but having superficially looked it may not. That probably answers that one then :)
Might be worthwhile to check the pump is the actual issue, not a wiring issue or debris from the fuel affecting the sensor.
