Huge disparity in the amount of kit being taken. Some must be more optimistic about weather and food supplies than others. Could be a massive factor in the race.

Given it's a pretty serious endeavour, anyone prevented from starting?

I expected to see more stoves given the lack of provisions. I wouldn't fancy surviving on cliff bars alone for 5 days on the trot!

5 PM local time and two riders are closing in the first pass. The last bit is really hard. Sun goes down at about 8PM. The downhill after the pass is well sketchy, I wouldn't want to do it in the dark.

Now I want an MTB...

He rode 28mm Durano for TCR but has chunkier tyres (some flavour of Marathon) for SRMR:

Founded on Mikko's twitter feed : Marathon mondial 35mm (he says 37mm, but they don't exist. Only 35mm & 40mm). Looking at the photo, they seemed thin, I really thought I saw 28mm (I have on my bike - marathon plus)

The 35s measure up as 37s:

So could those that went hard from the start and cleared the weather follow this pattern and maybe stay a day or two in front if the snow comes in......
Loving these instagram links and photos :) (i don't gram)

Anywhere to get a nice freeroute style map of proceedings? I get what dot watcher.cc are trying to do, but it's not really doing it for me.

Pedaled are posting great gram stories, course looks brutal. Would love to see the minibus they have driving up that pass, looks sketchy as

Hans Jurgen Heinzmann appears to have scratched. He was doing well and had covered just shy of 200 km.
