I used to get that through a guitar amp with a particular fx pedal sometimes, I think when the guitar volume was down (maybe shorting signal to earth and creating big aerial loop?) .

Details please?! I'm looking to do the same thing and that price sounds attractive!

Cute, probably a good balance for most house parties. The ZXa5 I use for similar purposes are 133db SPL, they have to be kept reined in for most domestic situations. I'm looking for a sub I can lift alone that would keep up with them. A DIY option would be great.

Nice article! Some day I'd like to try my hand at a Klipschorn build, although they're reputedly not that great sounding compared to modern designs.

Do I really need to run in new speakers?
FWIW they are entry level Missions. -

Do any horns sound good? My expectation of them is harsh, piercing mids and not much else...

Frugelhorns are a pretty popular full-range design.

On some it is absolutely essential. The first 100hrs or so my fostex drivers were pretty much unlistenable. Depends on the driver though, if they sound ok, then just play them lots - preferably at a decent volume.

May be interested in the speakers, would need posting to Cheshire though. I'm after a dab/iPod/cd mini system, although an excellent bit of kit, the Cambridge is way above my meager needs. Cheers. Jon

OK, apparantly my memory is not as good as I recalled it to be... Costs seem to be quite a bit less.
Anyways. The important item is thes one. Cheap from china: https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/20W-2-Bluetooth-Mini-HiFi-Stereo-Audio-AMP-Amplifier-FM-Player-for-Car-Home-12V/201963359203?itemId=201963359203
The sender is a basic one designed to transmit music from your phone to your car radio, there are tons of them for proverbial peanuts.
The sender is the weak link, you will have to get a charger cable that fits it and leave it connected to power to sustain a usable signal. Also bear in mind that it’s pretty short range, I’ve got about 6 meters and through some heavy brick walls and that works.Edit: This is the sender: https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/WIRELESS-FM-Transmitter-For-Car-Smart-Phone-Auto-Player-Audio-Device-3-5mm-New/273398064740?hash=item3fa7cb6664:g:kykAAOSw0JFbbGVP

Look what I got given its a luxman 1040 it's in great nick, the only thing missing is a bit of the balance knob that got snapped off. I wanted it for an upstairs system, but it's too blinking big! Even tho it's mid level luxman it's tank like build. I also got given one of these a Minidisc JE 510, seriously rumours of you being into hifi tends to attract a lot of gear...

Thanks for the link, just had a chance to study it. 2 x Fane 18" drivers = 28.4kg to start with, guesstimating this would be between 40 & 50kilos finished. That's a back breaking bit of kit for 1 person! but 8k max power, 2000w program is pretty significant.
I'm kind of looking for a magic solution that weighs less and does more than it should. Transmission line maybe?
Interesting thing happened the other night. I am sitting in the study, silently working on something at the pooter (ok browsing memes) ... we live rural so its very very quiet.. and suddenly I hear a quiet but clear voice speaking German for a few seconds. Goes away. The hairs go up on the back of my neck... think OMG can I smell toast? etc ... it comes in again, and this time I pinpoint it to the speakers. My system is always on, and the last thing I had been listening to was a record. The amp is still on phono channel, and the tuner is on sleeping on standby.
Listen again and it happens a few more times, drifting in and out before I get bored and go to bed. Never heard it before. I am thinking SW or AM radio RFI induced in the phono stage by atmospheric conditions. Freaky huh?
