  • Gotcha! Clearly he didn't ride my route according to info people have up thread and where he stopped, but I might just forget that and imagine he did... cheers!

  • You have to provide enough evidence for GWR to validate it. This varies depending on record. Could be GPX tracks, witness statements, video, photos, etc.

  • LEJOGLE is only a GWR, there is no RRA record for it. I'm not sure about UMCA but you could check on their site.

  • touring route

    Was it?

    covering the furthest distance

    Don't think so

Kristof has never been beaten in an unsupported endurance event

Winning a few times and stopping will do that for you.

  • God, they don't have two records to the different directions now do they?

Shit, in that case I'm back to claiming the worlds fastest ever ride from LE to Penrith on a red Shiv whilst weighing over 90kg and supported by a Pole and Saffa in September. Are you listening GWR?! I want my name in your book!

  • Friendliest, welcome back!

  • Beer, eating, fat?

  • Hi

  • I prefer 98 octane fuel.

    Pour 10L evenly over legs.
Ignite with Zippo lighter whilst screaming "yippee-ky-ayyy motherfuckers!!!".
    Relax.

  • I did check actually and they are asking to have two officials there to monitor the record attempt, so you'd actually need to have a crew with you, support cars etc.

  • Some of the records require officials be present, some of them will validate without if you can provide enough evidence. Obviously going for a year record or month record normal people can't afford to keep a GWR rep around.

  • Yeah, those were the UMCA/WUCA rules. They were quite clear about that, one official for short attempt and two if it lasts more than 24 hours I think. Though they might accept something else if it's something really long. Atleast GWR looks like it would. The year record was approved by UMCA so they must have done something else than what those rules say.

  • But it's not always the case. For example, GWR rules didn't require any officials for a LEJOG attempt (at least in 2014 when I tried), so I don't see why they'd require them for a LEJOGLE one. You can pay extra and have officials present so as to immediately validate a successful record, but it's not normally a requirement.

"3.1 You may request that a GWR adjudicator attend your Record Attempt. GWR will be under no obligation to agree to such a request but if so, GWR may require that you pay a fee and expenses, which may include at GWR’s sole determination, airfare, accommodation and daily attendance fee for the adjudicator. If GWR agrees to provide an adjudicator for your Record Attempt, it is agreed that the parties will enter into a separate agreement for such services."

  • Ah ok. Interesting.

  • Anyone else think it's poor form silk road has seemingly ripped off all of tcr identity. Caps, brevet, hash tags, look.

I like Nelson and love the idea of the race. But I think it's not really great. People need to be their own, not copy.

  • I agree not very original but believe it is with consent.

  • Where did you hear that?

  • I recall Nelson saying that he had got a lot of input from Mike when he was planning it and he mentioned that he was using quite a bit of the TCR 'template'
It's either on the website or in one of the emails, can't remember where now. Actually I think it's in the racers' manual. Will have a look when I remember and am at computer

  • Here's the manual, https://www.silkroadmountainrace.cc/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/SRMR-Race-Manual.pdf

Might be an old version but anyway.

Don't know about the look, but he indeed does give lots of credit to Mike and TCR.
    Also sponsored by Pedaled.

They have brevet cards in NC4000 too, surely inspired by TCR, and we had numbered caps in NCT, and small packable backpacks while TCR has had the mussettes. So others are taking TCR to be the role model too.

  • Given audax has been using brevet cards for ever isn't the only unique thing the numbered caps? Before I google it, was someone doing that before TCR?

  • Yeah, sure. It'd just be nice to see someone do their own thing, there is no rule it needs to be like TCR (or look identical) to work.

It seems like Pedeled are the ones that have come in and just made it so.

I'd just love to see someone come up with new idea, innovate. Not just copy.

This is all noted with the fact I like Nelson a lot.

  • It's not just the cap and brevet, but the whole look and feel of it. The folded cars, with pattern and rules, the checkpoints, the t shirts, the caps.

    Innovate people.

  • I haven't looked at any of it. I guess that's what happens when you have a winning format and the same company doing both events.

  • Pedeled are not doing tcr now.

Didn't you notice they wern't there, or really involved... 2+2.
