My ongoing gear quandries. I'm adding more gears to an older bike while maintaining the 126mm rear spacing and 7-speed Shimano freehub. I've worked out that you can fit 9 gears on the 7-speed body by using 9 of the gears off a 10-speed cassette. I just need a cassette which comes apart. Does anyone know if the 11-34 Shimano Tiagra HG500 10-speed cassette can be taken apart into separate cogs and spacers?

The rear 5/6 cogs will probably be one unit

Does anyone know
Shimano knows. Look up the EV for any cassette you're interested in by googling, e.g. "CS-HG500 EV PDF"
This shows the eight largest sprockets on the 11-34 are more or less permanently joined together. Making a 9-speed 13-34 would be easy, making an 11-30 would be particularly taxing in this instance because 30 and 34 are riveted to the same spider.

New wheels & seatpost day. Rear brake cable was a bit frayed so didn't feel comfortable with using on much wider rims. Waiting for new cables to arrive from Wiggle (Evans in town wanted as much as a complete set of inners/outers for one cable!). Enjoying the slightly deeper black rims.

It's not too taxing to drill the head off the rivet... Depends how much you want it!
Making a 9-speed 13-34 would be easy
Except you would need a 13T designed for a lockring (along with a lockring large enough).Apparently not. -

That's the easy bit. You then have to rivet the 30 back on and rebate the spider to bring the stack down to the desired width.

The lock ring is already large enough, and while serration is nice, it's not absolutely necessary.

Why? It's just done for convenience - the lower level cassettes are just stacked up sprockets with plastic spacers. If it's on an alloy carrier then yes, it's a totally different ballgame but I don't believe the HG-500 is... (crosses fingers, hopes he's right)

Cheers for the EV tip. It would be to make an 11-30. The picture on CRC and ^ @hamrack's video makes it look like it is just riveted together. Hopefully riveted and not pins pressed in. I don't think it would be a problem to drill them out, except maybe for the fact that the 34 on the back looks like it's offset or recessed.

Ah, I see what you mean. The one I've been looking at is the same as in the video, so hopefully shouldn't have that problem.

That's the Deore 11-36T. It's only because I was stubborn in my opinion that I looked further...

Well, if we're being pedantic, it's actually the 11-42. The 11-36 cassette for Deore is an HG50, not an HG500.
It does look like the 34 will come off the 11-34 HG500 without anything more serious than drilling out about 9 connecting pins holding the stack of sprockets and spacers together.

Reckon that the Tubus Mounting Set would hold up a pizza rack alright? (less than 20kilos probably).
The specs say it's for a lowrider rack which obviously has support from the dropout eyelets rather than from the fork bridge.

Finally got round to putting my girlfriends weekend/lock up bike together, had to resist cleaning it up too much but there's a few nice bits from the spare parts bin.
In other news i've stripped most the nice finishing kit of the Argos in a bid to tone it down, also trying a few different setups for more chilled riding.
