Why? It's just done for convenience - the lower level cassettes are just stacked up sprockets with plastic spacers. If it's on an alloy carrier then yes, it's a totally different ballgame but I don't believe the HG-500 is... (crosses fingers, hopes he's right)

It's not too taxing to drill the head off the rivet... Depends how much you want it!
Except you would need a 13T designed for a lockring (along with a lockring large enough).Apparently not.
