I entered a fell race yesterday, just on a whim.
We're on holiday up in Northumberland and the local country fair was on. Having not raced before, my aims were to not get lost, and hopefully avoid DFL.
I strangely enjoyed following the course which was largely grassy tussocks, following the slightly trodden line of the runners before me. I managed to keep at least one runner in sight ahead of me at all times, and even passed a couple. Made it round 6.4km in 39:10, a finishing time that caught my family by surprise, as they got to the finish to cheer me in long after I'd finished and wondered off around the fair looking for them.
Only downside was (having run through a few stream crossings) wishing I'd brought more than one pair of shoes on holiday.
Simonside, by Rothbury. Was a small fair, and I think it suffered a bit from a rainy morning, but it was really nice. Bit gutted we fell at the last hurdle in the egg throwing...
