  • Seen a few at around $1500 USD.

Obviously a few punts at 2500 here and there too.
Theres one on Chrono24 but it doesnt have original hands and looks shit

  • I think I prefer the white dial probably because I like a date window. Nice sharp case on the eBay one too, good luck in the hunt.

  • Pondering an Omega De Ville as a dress watch - anything else to consider?

  • De Ville's personally do absolutely nothing for me.

Cartier Tank would be my choice for an out and out dress watch. What is your budget and is vintage an option?

  • I know what you mean. IWC Portofino is preferable but a bit out of budget (probably £1-£2k.). Vintage would be ok but I don't want to gamble on anything. Could just pick up a Seamaster and be done with it, well within budget.

Basically fiancée has said she'll buy me a watch - my eventual 'grail' watch is an Explorer but as the budget won't stretch to that I was thinking something dressy but that could be still work in more casual/office settings.

If I wore smoking jackets a lot I'd be more than happy to buy a Tank but I don't think I could pull it off.

Very popular watch with Notts Forest Intercity Crew, and indeed the only people I've ever seen wearing them.

  • I’ve got an XL Tank Solo auto and a tank solo quartz and a deville on a bracelet, all either NOS or “preowned” and all bargains. Pm for deets if any float boat.

  • I've developed a bit of a chubb-on for this:

It's a modded Seiko, for sale in the United States.

Unfortunately, the vendor will not ship to the United Kingdom.

I was kind of hoping there might be a kindly Forumunger out there in the CONUS who would be willing to take delivery and post on.

    Answers on a postcard please...

  • I’m in NY early September

  • Hamilton Intramatic?

  • Re: your search for quartz Tag, if you're sure it's no longer stocked by an AD and you're sure it's what you want it, eBay could be worth a punt for a quick scan. It would need some serious provenance like box and shop receipt for me.
Edit: just looked at one auction that had a receipt from the Bicester Village shop, give them a bell and buy all the Rapha whilst your there.

  • Would you/they be buying it BN? Why not go for it on finance - if you want an Explorer i brand new that's what I'd do.

  • Gotta save something for my 30th.

I'd be happy with SH but I imagine she'd prefer to buy new. Price jump to an Explorer is a bit hefty.

  • where would one go in london to get an omega polished up and potentially new glass fitting (if it couldnt be buffed out)

and what would you expect to pay?

  • Replace the glass/crystal and leave the battle scars.

Love the 60s logo on those, great bang for the buck.

  • Whatever @dammit - a Tank is as classic as they come.

@umop3pisdn - vintage should definitely be an option. As you say, a Seamaster is the easy option, so why not go for something a little more unusual? kabaclyde on reddit obviously has relative bargains. Isn’t look out for a 60s Pie Pan Constellation.

It doesn’t even have to be vintage but as I’m sure you know, second hand will save you a chunk. Some of the smaller Aqua Terra’s could definitely be worn with a suit if you’re keen on buying something more modern.

Does it need to be a mid level luxury brand like Omega? Or can it be something now considered entry level like Longines, Nomos or Tudor? I’d definitely check out the Tudor BB36 if you’ve not seen one in the flesh. Lovely Oyster case, looks great on a strap or bracelet, great size and best of all an easy and cheap to service ETA 2824. Can be had for under £2k.

I'm in no way denying that it is a classic.

So, in their way, are Stone Island, Armani Jeans, Ben Sherman and Stella Artois.

You could combine those with the watch in question to nail The Look, quite possibly with a "Free Tommy Robinson" badge, these days.

  • Thanks, that looks like a good shout. I think you're right about eBay being a good option but I'm aiming to get one in fairly decent condition so seeing it in person would really help with that.

  • Bit like a 911 then?

  • Have you considered a Junghans Meister? Lots of choices, most for less than £1500. You get a lot for your money.

  • ha!
