Would you/they be buying it BN? Why not go for it on finance - if you want an Explorer i brand new that's what I'd do.

I know what you mean. IWC Portofino is preferable but a bit out of budget (probably £1-£2k.). Vintage would be ok but I don't want to gamble on anything. Could just pick up a Seamaster and be done with it, well within budget.
Basically fiancée has said she'll buy me a watch - my eventual 'grail' watch is an Explorer but as the budget won't stretch to that I was thinking something dressy but that could be still work in more casual/office settings.
If I wore smoking jackets a lot I'd be more than happy to buy a Tank but I don't think I could pull it off.
