Smith Street is “the one” but I also love a lot of artists at Green Point, Rose and Citizen Ink.

Non tattooed person question. Who would be good in London to get a tattoo of a design that you already know and want and wouldn’t be put out just copying a design if indeed many do?
Want a Stig Lindberg playing card like this

I really like Jackie Dunn Smith's work.
My wife got this and I think it turned out pretty rad.

I finally got this finished today. Done by Scott Move at Parliament. I got the lining done about 2 years and only just got round to the shading. Scott absolutely smashed it out, it only took him 3 1/2 hours to do all of the shading. Please excuse the terrible photo!

Any known tattoo studios/artists that use ink without metal?
Preferably in London.Wife is keen to get a tattoo done but is allergic to many metals. Reading online most inks have metal in them through there are inks without.
Does anyone have recommendations of places that offer such inks? Also, how do they compare to regular inks in the long term?
Cheers.

Have a consultation next week at The Circle for my first tattoo. Any questions worth asking outside of design /cost/number of hours etc?

My main advice would be to see how you get on with the artist, I wouldn't want to get tattooed by someone I felt cold about as a person. Up to you though, good choice of studio!

I'd identify the artist(s) your wife wants and speak to them directly. You don't want to choose a tattoo artist based on what ink they use if their work is not what you'd want on your body for the rest of your life, but instead you could ask your chosen artist if they would be happy to use / have had experience with using ink without metal and if they know the longevity of the tattoos etc etc.
What kind of reaction would your wife get? Could she try to get a tiny tattoo done somewhere hidden / or in an area that the small 'sample' could later be covered by the actual thing?
Also, bear in mind different colours would give you different level allergic reaction. I think red is the worst?

The way I'd approach this-given the cost of a tattoo and the potential allergic reaction:
- Get samples from the artist you've chosen/ find a good artist- explain the dilemma, chose ink together
- Go see an allergy specialist. Do a skin test.
- If 2 is OK- proceed to tattoo.
- Hope for the best because Mast Cells are little shits.

Thanks for replies, is for our housemate, she’s fired off a few inquiries.
High fives all round. -

Agreed, neither would Caleb.
If anyone at Old Habits were up for it I'd say it would be Ryan Jessiman

What’s the deal with tipping? I’ve sometimes given a bit extra if they’ve spent extra time drawing or editing while I’m there, but it’s such a big personal expense already it’s a bit tough to part with more, especially if I’ve just chosen some flash. I once grabbed a bag of beers for a (highly respected/trendy) shop, as I had a consultation that didn’t go very well and I felt like I wasted their time a bit, and was met with such ambivalence I ended up feeling like a bit of a weirdo.

Honestly the safest option is get a tattoo with only black ink. As far as inks go this is your best shot of having no reaction in general especially for someone that has a known problem.
Had my consultation with dexter Kay yesterday and he was great, immediately got what I was looking for on all three designs I discussed with him and was open about the issues with tattooing black skin and had some ideas about how to tweak the ideas/designs to make them work with that.
Just need to book in the first session now..
