Or even more convoluted: a stretchy strap to platform for the support and a fixed one at the top to keep the cans pressed down in to it.

couple of these and you're sorted.

I like your thinking!

What on earth is that meant for?
-

Okay now I'm thinking getting rid of the wooden support completely, elastic webbing in a cross beneath the cans, and an elastic retaining strap above, great ideas

What are those handlebaR GRIPS? They look awesome.

vibrations were a real issue
Gotta be something you can
dobodge with inner tubes to fix that. -
• #685
Make a device that holds the cans securely in place then use drinking tubes.

Could get Dave to knock you up a custom rack like he did for Will's bike, not quite a bodge though.

Or the £5 bar/stem bag things from decathlon hold a beer perfectly.
-
• #689
yeah but where's the fun in that?
-
• #690
Exactly. Why spend £5 on something ready made, when you can spend several hours on something that ends up costing £15 and doesn’t work all that well if you’re honest with yourself.
-
• #691
Can't you just zip tie the cans directly to the bars by the ring pull tabs? Ok, so when you hit a bump all the cans pop open, but you were going to drink them anyway weren't you?
-
• #692
How about throwing up on there?

Theoritically you cannot use a Shimano road STI with an MTB front derailleur (talking about early-mid 90's stuff here). However I have managed to make it work with a double crankset (I think, I'll only be 100% sure tomorrow, but it seems to be fine).
RSX triple STI with an M550 LX triple front derailleur. Once you set the limiters up correctly on the FD, one press on the STI does the shifting. Will report back on how this turned out in practice, as I am one chainring short at the moment...Update:
Works like a charm with 2 chainrings, wouldn't work with 3 as the pull ratios are different. Money saved by not having to buy a FD. :P -

Joked about this very thing after TCR.

I remember the double rim double tyre bikes. I bet they feel awful to ride. Can you imagine the tyre profile? It'd be like a car tyre.
-
• #698
Yeah and on corners it's still narrow tire
-
• #699
Originally fat bikes weren't really meant for serious cornering though were they? They were built for going in a straight line over everything - fields, mud, sand, snow, etc.

Superb work from today.

That would be nice, a bit of adjustable webbing
