  • Old tube looks like a gateway to hell. Glad you decided to change it, who knows what could have happened.

  • Great work man

  • This thread fills me with envy. So much quality workmanship and tools. Very good.

  • Well done...whats the plan on that gt ?

  • Yeah. There was a big lump of causic soda and loads of water trapped in there. I probably should just have binned the frame. But love...

  • Thanks guys.

This is the plan. Although it might feature some Middleburn cranks instead :)

  • Tasty...looking forward

  • Fillets looks to turn out worthy of the rest of the frame.

  • I am still getting a bit of porosity and pin holes, but it shaped up nicely.

  • porosity and pin holes

    Contamination? Gas flow?

  • Well, I don't know.

I have read somewhere that it might be too much flux

  • soooo good! i also built a triple triangle frame just recently! i am super happy but welds are nowhere neeear your level!! soo good
    correction: fillet brazing!! not welding

  • Thanks mate.

  • I fucking love this bike. It is by far the one I ride the most. It is a perfect mix between fast and comfy and the dynamo light make it weapon of choice almost every day.
Sometime in the near future it deserves a Swift rando bag the has a bit more space than this Ostrich one.
The Ortlieb decaleur system I hacked also works effortlessly. Everything about this bike is just super easy.

I reckon you now see why I love my low trail rando bike.

  • Yeah Yeah

@Hulsroy was wondering if the GT stamped 'virtual top tube end' was getting stuck back on. Much satisfaction.

  • Yeah. That is the only reason I embarked on this stupid project.

That and the fact that Dave Tiemeyer built it.
I am a big fan of his work and was excited to see how he'd done it.

  • I think I nailed the size and the shapes of the fillets. And although frame has some history etc I have decided to not go all period correct.
I am going to give it a detachable seat post collar and ahead headset.

  • Cheers for the link, will certainly take a read. Just the url makes me miss my Pulse track bike :'|

  • Its possible this has already been discussed but is that shifter boss on the seat tube for a roller dynamo?

Seems odd on a frame like that.

Repairs turned out well. Great work.

  • Barrel adjuster for front derailleur. There is a pulley wheel very far down on the seat tube as well. This is a early nineties pro cyclocross frame.

  • Interesting. Are you replacing it? Or maybe going 1x only?

  • Yeah those bits are going back on. The steam punk look makes me excited

  • This
