I think I've got some really nice things in progress but I'm very lazy about finishing and finessing stuff, maybe that's just my mile wide punk rock streak...

Me too - when I start to finesse/finish stuff it tends to kill the original takes.
I over add /tweak so end up with multiple versions or one muddy mess. I suppose its a 'living' organic thing and can't be tied down.
As for lyrics - maybe its age but I don't feel comfortable writing / expressing the things that I did when younger - feels a bit ridiculous tbh.

I remember when it first came out and thought shit .
You can't sit down and write a classic - a 'classic' may happen in retrospect.
