My uneducated guess would be worn out motor/transmission mounts.

I'm not quite sure, they're just the right level of English engineering shop humour, they're building a ridiculously over-engineered car with great enthusiasm, commitment, and incredible attention to detail, in a mostly transparent and "behind the scenes" way.
For me personally, without sharing too much, they're living a dream of mine. They have the ideas, the knowledge, and the skills to seemingly build whatever they want. Which is just awesome.

I like to kid myself into believing that if I had access to the space and all the tools, I could do any job myself, maybe not perfectly the first time, but I could get there and enjoy it. Hopefully by the end of this Saturday I'll have completed an engine swap on basically a driveway, which is a pretty big deal for me, not just in the context of having a working car again, but completing a major mechanical feat. The Bad Obsession guys, truly can do anything, and that impresses me, and thus entertains me.

Used to work for a multi-discipline engineering company that was like you describe, all 60+ age guys, all very skilled, but from the outside at least appear to have a mint time every single day at work making odd things to incredibly high standards.
Working there and being fed up of working for arseholes has directed me to open my own workshop, mostly bicycle stuff but occasionally get time to work on cars, motorbikes, woodworking and metal working projects. I have 250m2+ of bright clean dry space to make as much stuff as I like, just have to make enough to pay the bills each month ;) -

It’s great finally being old enough to get insurance on one of these for a decent price.

Still heavily contemplating saying goodbye to Discovery and wondering if anyone can give me a better option than current frontrunner?
- Diesel
- Not 4-cylinder
- Automatic
- Estate or SUV
- 2008/2009 or newer
- Max budget c. £13,000
- Preferably 40mpg +
- Preferably reasonably plush
Finding it hard to look past a C350 Cdi AMG.
- Diesel

I can attest to AMG C-classes being costly to fix, but mine is a 2007.

• #43767
Yours is also a proper AMG as opposed to a tarted up pov-spec Merc!

I'm reluctant on BMW from past experience but I do see the sense in them.

Yep. Thinkware f800 Pro, front and rear (or front only) is the one to go for.

Literally living my dream.
I am not disciplined enough to do that, I'd have no money because I'd just spend my life fucking around with my own stuff. I do not have any ideas either so couldn't start making something to sell because I have no idea what.
Sometimes I do wish I'd persisted with a career in engineering.

Who does your insurance? Didnt think you were that much older than me...

• #43775
Oh on the topic of insurance, just moved to Reis Motorsport Insurance. Underwritten by Zenith on a competition car policy, which apparently I qualify for(!), £250....
7,500 miles max annually, which is more than enough for me on the MX5
My Jenveys have them in the body but you can blank them like you say.
The manifold i have has 4 areas design in you can machine out to fit injectors. Maybe that's for an 8 injector setup or something wild though
