I built this thing, not really sure what it's supposed to be. Bit of a mullet setup, sort of SSCX front and Pengy-era deep alloy rear. Bodgy screechy v-brakes, terrible oval chainring (hence the slack chain), wonky bars. Was going to build a 650b coaster rear wheel for it but enjoying fixed for now. Would love a stupid 88mm carbon rim or something for it just to emphasise the mulletyness.
Gets me into the office okay.

Saw this on a fb group, and the guy mentioned that he actually has some Wald handlebar struts set up too, you just can't see them. Now, I don't know that it makes me feel like this is entirely non-sketchy, but I guess it's a little better.

He didn't put them on yet. some guy on reddit

Crust dude built/assembled/is riding (?) this thing
He broke his ankle and had to have surgery on it. I guess this is what he's doing in the recovery period.

Posted at the request of @frankenbike - this is the bike I was mentioning in the commuting thread. It makes a really weird knocking sound when pedaling and if I use the inner ring the chain gets wedged between it and the middle one. Also it's got biospace rings which I'd not heard of until now!
This is the handlebars, which are so narrow, and also upside down. Note the downtube friction shifters haha.
Good use of a spare wheel clamp (at least I think that is what is is):

Nice! What did you mean about the DIY cantilevers?
-
• #16673
Sounds like it could do with a service!
What makes you think the handlebars are upside down? Those are thumb shifters and not downtube shifters, they are meant to be like that and the set you've got looks like a half-decent pair!
Also, the 'spare wheel clamp' is meant to be there! It's a quick release for changing the height of the saddle when offroading, most riders would lower the seat before a technical downhill section!

Ah I thought there weren't cantileaver posts on the forks but there are on further inspection. It's a weirdish looking thing and I feel all bunched up on it so but hopefully this'll make it undesirable to steal!

Wow! Are they really thumb shifters? Thank you for the info - I've never heard of friction thumb shifters before! They certainly feel solid but no matter what position I put them they are uncomfortable to use.
The way the handlebars felt made it extremely odd feeling so I flipped them; basically they were curving forwards and upwards if you know what I mean? After a 5 mile cycle my wrists were feeling it, which I've not had before. Much better now tho.
I guess with the wheel clamp is that I've not seen one like that on a seat post before, and only on old steel frame bike wheels!
