bottomed out crankset

  • My Miche Primato Advanced crankset has bottomed out on the bottom bracket. I have a Dolan Seta track frame with SKF JIS 107 bottom bracket, as per (JIS) recommendation of the manufacturer. It also makes a creaking noise on every pedal stroke.

I want to say that when tighten the bottom bracket bolts the crank arms go so deap on the bottom bracket axle that they get in contact with the bottom bracket cups.

Anyone experience something similar? Shall I go for an 110mm bottom bracket?
I was also thinking to go for a Shimano BB-UN55?

  • Miche cranks should be fine on 107mm jis taper B.B.

It’s what we have all the bikes at work and no bottoming out.

Is your crank maybe worn out? Been overtightened and stretched the taper out?

  • Shall I buy a new bottom bracket 107 mm or it is better to get a 110mm one? I think to buy a Shimano UN55 BB 110mm. Would a 110mm BB change much the chain line?

  • I’m no mathematician but wouldn’t it put it 1.5mm further out?

  • This I understood, though, will 1.5mm create much more friction? would it be noticeable?

  • Is it the same on both sides? My primato on a 107 tange bb has about 2-3mm clearance from the bb cups each side. Your bb could also be asymmetrical. What’s the clearance like on the stays? If it’s well close then it’ll likely worn tapers or short axle.

  • This is a mistery!!! I just found the email with the order. It is clear, SKF JIS 107! Should be fine. It does notbmake sense, now I will have to take out the bottom bracket out and check the label...?

  • Could it be that the frame is wider in the bottom bracket area so the BB cups sit further out on the axle?

  • It could be but it’s much much more likely that the crank tapers are worn.

Was the size marked on the bottom bracket itself? Could be you ordered a 107mm and were sent a 103mm? Actually, don’t think the SKF B.B. is available in 103mm.
