  • My friend Claire still insists it’s called Combe Giblets.

  • Didn't get any response. Will try again .

  • I think all the parks stuff has finished for the summer. There is some urban Tuesday night's over the winter.

  • On my feet all day, every day since - so it’s holding up in that sense. But definitely won’t be running on it for a while. Just trying to keep myself busy, I get too pissed off if I start to think about healing times too much.
The ankle is still swollen but the colouring has mainly gone. Fuck knows really.
British Fell Relays are on the 20th October at Grassmere, which I’m keen to run in a so it might be a case of very gently going back to running in a couple weeks and doing a shit load of swimming or maybe biking (if the ankle can take it) and a load of core to try and compensate, along with restrengthening exercises.
Tbh, it’s mainly about having some sort of focus to keep me sane and to stop me just trying to go running and reinjuring myself.

  • It sucks being injured. hopefully you're back on track soon.

  • classic bruising of torn ankle ligaments, physio will get you back quicker and leave it stronger. If you don't rehab that well you may always have a slight jelly ankle.

I have done both on different occasions (you climb right? I once did both (mildly) at once falling off a highball bouldering problem). I have also done both of them badly on different occasions. one took 3 months to be able to run on and 1y+ to feel no pain. The other is still a bit weak. I didn't do proper rehab.

  • Can confirm - 2 years and counting. That’s what happens when you don’t take it seriously in the first instance...

  • Blimey, what did you do?

  • Perfect conditions for a run today.

Sacked it off though, because meh.

In other news, I've found some running sunnies - It would appear that googling for safety glasses and tactical glasses is a better way to look for lightweight and cheap wraps.

  • Just knocked a minute off last weeks 5k time, comfortably back under 30 minute mark.

Treat myself to some 'comfy' running shoes with a bit more cushioning than I normally go for and shelled out for the new nike zoom pegasus turbo. they're possibly the loudest running shoes i've every owned colour wise but were very nice to run in. not sure i buy the hype about them making you faster at least not at my current pace. can see them being good for a nice bit of base mile building though.

  • My brother has convinced me to sign for the Amsterdam marathon. 11 weeks is enough right? I'm going to run 20km this weekend and see how stupid I have been

  • I went for these in then end - 34g and £9 can't be sniffed at

  • I may have also bought these

    They're £20, but 22g

  • Vo2max crept up to 43 on thurs at the top of orange section "fair" and then snuck up again today to 44
and back into the start of green section "good").

far cry from the 56 of my marathon fit days but headed back in the right direction (was 34 last oct)

  • Pride 10k in Viccy Park today. Great race, done it a few times and thought it would be a good one to do in the race-myself-fit-again project. Fairly pleased with 34:33, 4th overall, 2nd v40 (behind my club mate who came 3rd), and had a right ding-dong with MsPub, a full-on gurn fest to stay ahead of her in the final km. She finished first female in a 1-sec PB (chip) of 34:41. We also made 1st male and female teams. Runners Need will be redeeming quite a few vouchers shortly. :)

  • ^^ good progress

    ^ solid

Thoughts on Jakob Ingebrigtsen then anyone?

  • I've been there the last two nights. Absolutely unreal performances from the young lad. If he was East African....

  • Apparently there are some documentaries about them that are well worth a watch. Dad is a bit of a loon and Jakob has been on 85 mile weeks for a while!

  • It's been good on telly, must've been brilliant there.

Euros fields not as strong as Worlds etc, be interesting to see how he holds up against the World's best...

  • Did 25 hilly offroad miles this morning, threw in a bit of navigation for good measure. Last long effort before Dare 12 (hour) and legs feel like they're about to drop off. Proper tired. Almost 5 hours out in the rain but only felt a little chilly at the top of one of the hills on shorts and short sleeve top.

Think I needed a bit more to eat today. Was bonking toward the end. For some reason I picked up two gels but only one made it into my pack before setting off :( thankfully I remembered the energy balls from the fridge!

  • I did Ipswich parkrun with my 3.75 yr old twins in the pushchair on Saturday. I shamefully had to walk up two hills, with both boys saying 'run, don't walk' whilst being overtaken by anyone nearby.

Finished in 71st. The silver lining to the cloud: An excellent play area for them to play in afterwards.

I'm also pleased that I am not always 45kg heavier

  • I entered a fell race yesterday, just on a whim.
We're on holiday up in Northumberland and the local country fair was on. Having not raced before, my aims were to not get lost, and hopefully avoid DFL.
I strangely enjoyed following the course which was largely grassy tussocks, following the slightly trodden line of the runners before me. I managed to keep at least one runner in sight ahead of me at all times, and even passed a couple. Made it round 6.4km in 39:10, a finishing time that caught my family by surprise, as they got to the finish to cheer me in long after I'd finished and wondered off around the fair looking for them.
Only downside was (having run through a few stream crossings) wishing I'd brought more than one pair of shoes on holiday.

how much do you weigh? I probably wasn't far off that 2 months ago. :D
