For all you Chinese carbon shoppers... Latest planet money podcast explains why (how) some items ship so cheaply from China etc...

Also China subsidises the international shipping costs for local companies to allow them to compete globally. The reason you can buy a 50p usb adapter with free shipping is that their government pays for it.

Postnord here in sweden introduced a fee for pretty much everything purchased from asia. Plus taxes. Everything from outside EU gets stuck in customs now whereas small parts were effectively tax + customs free before. It's been quite effective since i've only bought a single cheap part since they did so.. Lame though but understandable since the app 'Wish' got popular and all teenage girls bought £1 dresses with free shipping messing up the whole system.

Cheap MTB flats anyone? I saw people recommend used Shimano Saint for £30 back in the thread but they're for a beater and I want something even cheaper
-

Yes. You know what I have something extremely similar in my parts box except without the replaceable pins and whatnot. I forgot about them because I've been on SPD forever. Thanks for reminding me.
I should weigh mine, they feel like they weigh a ton and maybe those are lighter in which case a worthwhile upgrade.
If anyone's bought any cheap modern/lightweight (aluminium/nylon/whatever) pedals with replaceable pins I'd be interested to hear your experience too

Nukeproof Electron Evos have been good to me. Going to try the One Up composite pedals next

Hmm, I was looking at these earlier which look to be near identical. Do I want real ones or Chinese knock-off? 🤔
-

Pretty sure they'll come from the same factory. If you're happy to wait for them to be shipped from China, then go for it.

Anyone know of a source of Chinese speedplay pedal bodies? I need longer than standard axles anyway and I have spare bearings. Just need a cheap set of the plastic bodies (with or without bow ties).

I've got them, the bearings aren't great. Mine developed a wobble that doesn't seem to be fixable short of replacement bearings which seems pointless for the price.

Alright, cheers. I'll use my shitey Wellgo ones for now and upgrade to something like the Nukeproofs later

Would you mind to post the link for saddle and seatpost?

I took the plunge on a cheap Sugek 11-42 cassette a few weeks ago:
It took 2 weeks to arrive but seems great for the price (less than £20). Bit heavier than my old Shimano XT casette but that was pretty worn.

I paid my customs fees in free stamps, earned from my participation in the Royal Mail postage survey. It looked pretty ridiculous!

25.4mm carbon seatpost for Synapse? Options seem thin on the ground at present and mostly marketed as seatposts for Children's bikes?

I’ve got this. It’s a bit of a bulgy shape but works.

Seems to increase in width near the top

I was tempted but then Dammit had one and it nearly poked him in the bum when it snapped iirc
