  • Stockholm. It was actually through a swedish maserati forum that i learned about these guys. They have worked on them for a very long time with a lot of happy customers. I guess a belt could fail on anyone once or twice so dont want to judge them this early. But it sux :)

  • We’re using (or, rather, re-using) some project work that the heads’n’cams guy did for Superbikes- variable intake tract depending on load and revs to ensure that we pull through the revs smoothly. ITB’s can have quite a stepped power profile otherwise as they hit and then leave the trumpets resonance points. Language not quite right there but hopefully you get the point!

A mate had a saxo race car with a high compression engine build on itb's that was an absolute screamer. It may have had that stepped profile you're referring to but tbh I never noticed as it was always in a world of high revs and noise.

    Tldr: when is the next lfgss ring trip?

    We're doing something similar to what BMW did with the M3 - feed the ITB's in a way that doesn't result in the sort of power delivery that this Porsche flat 6 has:

    This plenum was used on the 997 GT3 RS, 3.6l, 3.8l, and 4l. So on cars producing from 415hp to 493hp.

    *fits with my theory the more folk spend on stuff the less they research it

  • Some of you might remember a post from a few months ago, about a Subaru brat, which I pulled out of a hedge on a friend's farm. I've been working on it almost full-time since then, and it's finally all back together. Lots of welding, panel beating a fabricating, and have just taken it out of the shed, having resprayed it. Did everything myself, occasionally with a bit of help from friends. There are lots of photos from throughout the process, but can't download them from my camera at the moment, so here are a couple of very low res shots of the preview screen. Will post proper photos of finished product soon, and if there's interest; I could put together a gallery of the work.

  • So to cement my lack of knowledge in this department..

    Can a belt in a car for a certain position and pulleys look very different yet carry out the same quality job? I realize the belt and pulley dont mech like a chain and cog so they may perhaps be perfectly fine even tho they look very different?

    The fine tooth one is the one i cut out from the car.
    The longer less pointy belt is the one i think was originally in the car in the same possition as it more or less matches in length if i count the bit still stuck in the pulley..


    would both these 2 belt types work fine on the pulleys seen below ? Was originally fitted to the pulley furthest to the right i imagine..

  • I don't think tooth pitch of the belt matters much if the pulley is a plain V-groove ... but the one on the left is already cracking. Can you get a new one?

  • thx, im taking the car back to the shop today. Nicely spotted, yeah i saw that too with the white stripe developing. Dont know if thats from the other belt failing or if the belts just dont match this car very well.. Hard for me to say as i know jack about this sorta of stuff but its very annoying after a big bill. And these were just installed in order for them not to fail in the future.. (guess thats always the case tho)

    That potentially damaged belt is not spinning either as its powered by the axle driven by the belt that has allrdy failed. So that side of the engine should be safe, i hope..

    Im thinking perhaps the slim pointy tooth are easily bent to the sides under preassure and perhaps the point are broken of an then the belt becomes to loose? Is that not a scenario that could potentially happen with these type of different tooth?

    They better not charge me when i come to pick it up
