the more you free up police time to concentrate on other thing
The last time I actually saw an RPU Officer within Zone 6, I was pulled over for not having a front plate. I haven't seen another one since then, that was about 4 years ago.
I might be wrong and I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but I think RPU numbers are decreasing, or at least not increasing in line with driver numbers.

My bad.......

Fucking hell, that's insane. More than enough for a prosecution though, surely. Silver lining that it was on camera.

please tell me that cunt is on his way to prison. please

’d be extremely surprised if the revenue even covers costs. This “cash cow” thing is a red herring.
You’re right in that cameras free up officer time.
A standard "GATSO" costs between £20-40k, you reckon they don't cover their costs?
I am not arguing that cameras are a good thing, I am suggesting that from what I've seen, Police officers have been replaced by cameras, which do fuck all to affect change.

Jeezus ....

You would think its a slam dunk wouldnt you. Cops on the scene in the end I think too. If they cant prosecute based on that then were all wasting our time.

once you step outside the realm of using your car in an ordinary manner, the law should really just treat it the same as someone brandishing a weapon
-
• #23760
Common sense would say thats it, you used your car as a weapon, you have lost the privilege of driving and banned for life.
But if anything at all, he'll get a 12 month ban and a hundred quid fine
Why we continue to see driving as a right and not a privilege is beyond me. Letting off drivers who kill and admit they weren't paying attention, handing out temporary bans for dangerous drivers like that will somehow improve their driving etc

Nah, he'd cop for careless driving, the CPS would fold, and he'd get 6 points and a 400 fine. Plead guilty and without a Newton hearing the mags don't see the video evidence.

This was the last of 3 incidents involving the guy on Clapham road. Started with a close pass just after Clapham South and continued from there.
I’ve got the lot on camera but won’t upload as it’s obviously going to be passed on.
The first cyclist involved didn’t want to take it any further but if he new what happened later then I’m sure he would have changed his mind.

• #23764
he'll get a little slap on the wrist and a few hearty back slaps from his mates/fellow drivers while guffawing "bloody cyclists something something road tax".

Anyone get caught in the pileup near Stockwell when someone's rear wheel fell off?
-
• #23766
Do stick it up here for the rest of us to see.
-
• #23767
What exactly was the guy's problem there? That people were... near his car? Does he scream and mount the kerb if a pedestrian passes when he's trying to parallel park?

I think its the end of a sequence of progressivley aggy events judging by Dantheman's comments.

I had a little bit to do with these cameras in last job. They’re not he silver bullet that people think they are in terms of enforcement. And just because a camera costs £X to buy doesn’t mean that’s the total cost. They’re not totally automated - every time a speeding camera catches someone there’s a real copper doing paperwork behind the scenes. And with police budgets being slashed that often means no action is taken. I’d love it if the cameras could be made self-sufficient, or even profit-making to fund new ones, but they’re not currently. Lots of stuff is going on to make them more efficient.
I only had a tiny bit to do with them, but that was my understanding at the time.

I feel like that's even worse, but then at the same time, if the staff resources are being spent on operators/auditors of the evidence from cameras rather than Police on the roads focusing on road offences, and they think the most important factor to road safety is speed, then the money is being spent on the right thing. It's just a shame, but understandable due to budget cuts, that there are fewer Police on the roads to catch poor driver behaviour.

Does the driver not shout "it's a stolen car, it's a stolen fucking car" at about 1m2s? Or was that someone else?
-
• #23772
Some things are “decriminalised” so that TfL can just sort it out themselves, and make it mostly automated. If central government let them do that with other things like speeding then they could just zip out letters and fines.
At the moment I think they can only do bus lane infractions and stuff like that.

Really nutty one this morning. This is in Canada so everything is opposite.
Riding fast down a 2 lane road approaching a junction with a busy 3 lane. I'm in primary ready to go on the left of the cars that wait to turn right and last minute get passed and cut off by a fat cunt in a BMW convertible indicating right. I ask him through his window why he bothered to pass, at which he turns bright red, aborts his maneuver, and chases me. He gets alongside and is screaming, frothing about bike lanes and whatnot so I call him a "pathetic cunt". He doesn't like this and swerves completely into my lane forcing me into the curb. Off he goes.
There's a cop watching the whole thing disinterestedly from outside the US Consulate, and I ask him what I should do about that kind of situation. He tells me if I was wearing a helmet then it would avoid me getting hurt in those situations - "there's a lot of idiots out there". I ask him why the VPD thinks it's acceptable for people to use their cars as weapons. He scoffs - "it's just a bit of road rage, happens every day".
I let out an exasperated "fucking hell mate" at which he goes postal, screaming about not being "a bobby on the beat in London" and if I behave like that around him he'll give me a good smack. Vancouver's finest eh.
