Lovely...
A couple of questions:
Did you ever fit mudguards? Look like there's plenty of clearance...?Did you need to use long-drop brake calipers?
Could you be persuaded to post?

Never mudguards, only a rack - however there is enough clearance imo and the eyelets are there I assume for mudguards primarily.
I used 600 tricolor dual pivots which have a short reach (49mm max iirc) and they were ace.Yeah I guess I could post it, PM me if you're interested!

I'm fairly sure Mercian Audax frames are made to take guards but not a rear rack, as it doesn't have eyelets on the seatstays.

Yeah I agree, hence the marks on the seat stays from the P clamps used to secure the rack

Noooo sold long ago sorry mate
I bought this for the sole purpose of cycling from Dieppe to Barcelona on it. It did that, very well. Now I must sell it. It has a beautiful paintjob and lovely lugwork.
The previous owner has repainted over some of the silver areas of the frame with Matte Silver paint which you cannot tell from any further than a metre away. The serial is still visible on the BB shell and is present on the steerer tube as well. I have checked this with Mercian, this is the 4th frame built in 1996.
Tubing is 531C.
It comes with a Campagnolo Mirage headset which is in decent condition and a Shimano UN-55 BB which has been used for 1500km to Barcelona only. Also included is the seatpost which came with the frame when I bought it, it is ever so slightly too small and slips when put under a lot of force - but served me fine on my journey.
The frame has the expected scratching and it looks to be a little rusty at the dropouts sadly - there is a noticeable scratch where the rack was mounted for touring which I have taken a picture of.
