  • cheers jw!

  • That looks amazing dude! I'm so stoked for you!

  • thanks, esse.

steering column next, then dash, then cage.

then it is go fast bits...

  • ooh, and front springs - it is sitting on blocks of wood atm, as there is not enough weight in the front to compress 800lbs...

  • Just a reminder if you were interested in standing around watching/helping put an engine into an MX5 on Saturday then please PM me and I'll provide an address.

I think we might have a BBQ if the weather is good, if not, then I'll be ordering pizza for the troops.

Feel free to cycle down so you can crush cans and heckle if you prefer.

  • Picked up a 2.4D T4 yesterday. Soon realised that the fuel gauge, temperature and speedo* were all not working properly. I have no idea what I'm doing, but the kids love it.

*over-reading speed - due to the larger 2nd hand wheels?

  • Is it a camper, or family transport?

Speedo issue could possibly be fixed using an adaptor of some sort but it's easier to just use your phone GPS, it's an issue as old as people have been putting bigger wheels on cars!

If it was me, I'd put smaller wheels with nice fat tyres on, it'll massively improve the ride comfort.

  • Is it a camper, or family transport?

At the moment, I don't know! Similar to recent conversations that others have had in this thread, we were torn by a nice estate or a camper. In the end I found this Caravelle for (I believe) a good price, so was happy to take a punt and see if it works out for us. If we're happy with it then we might look to fit a rock n roll bed...

Thanks for the advice - It's definitely a harsh ride, so I might see if I can replace the wheels and sell these on.

  • Definitely punt the wheels on, but also, judging by the ride height, it doesn't look like they've put aftermarket suspension on, so it may be tired/worn out and need replacing sometime soon.

  • These were OEM and look pretty awesome

  • This seems to be the car thread - hope I'm not derailing it with my request for advice, but it's a quick one!

Our old family banger has just failed it's MOT. It's a pretty ropey VW Golf 1.6 from 2000. Only 70,000 odd miles on the clock, but old in every other way.

Whats the best bet for maximising scrappage / sale. It still runs fine, it's just got a very long list of things wrong with it (tyres/airbag light/various electrics/ suspension stuff/ handbrake and more I think) and would be worth £500 ish if it passed I reckon.

Just scrap, or do people buy the "runners" for a little more?

  • What's the cost of fixing enough stuff to get it through the MOT, vs. the value you'd get from a scrapper?

    £500-(cost to fix+MOT+VED+advert)<scrap_value?

  • *over-reading speed - due to the larger 2nd hand wheels?

Maybe the VR6 badge means the ECU means it thinks it ought to be going faster given the output from the throttle potentiometer?

  • I've got a spare Porsche Motorsport intake manifold, BNIB, can one of you lot please buy a car that needs one, and then buy it from me?

  • New Binky episode out and it's wonderful!

Still only seeing Episode 17 here from 2 months ago.

  • My bad. I didn't realise that patreons get it a day early. Should be out today then, I guess.

  • Don't know is the answer from the garage. Some of the problems are electrics related so once they start, it could be a can of worms.

I suppose the question is, do people pay more for a "runner" than a total duff when it comes to scrap? I don't think it will be economical to repair as if it costs more than £250, you're onto a losing a game. My knowledge of failed MOTs is it always costs more than £200. List it on ebay with a £75 start price? Will I just get messed around by a load of chancers?

  • Where? I can't seem to find it.

  • It'll be available around 20.00 tonight, I guess. 24 hour delay from the release to Patreons.
Looks like the episodes will come out a bit more frequent from now on as well:

Thank you as always for your patronage; your continuing support has allowed us to both go full time at BOM headquarters and we're cracking on with the work as fast as we can now.

  • Cheers.

Finally the time difference goes my way!

  • Yes, they are full time now. $6k a month from Patreon and SIP sponsor. I think its great and worthy of every penny

  • Ah! mini rant as I know folks here will sympathize.

Mrs H isn't keen on a Civic as it looks too rude boy* despite probably fitting our needs quite well...

... however she does like the look of the prolific Honda Fit, aka the Jazz ;(

As yet my attempts to point out what driving a 1.3l down to France is going to be like is falling on deaf ears.

Don't suppose anyone's driven one of their grandparents and has any views?

*a surprising number of the better looking cars fall into this category.
