What's max 650 on your arkose? Feel difference between Speshy and Schwalbe was night and day!

2.2 with miminal knobs, the Speshy is £10 for a pair so can't go wrong.

If it's not as good, then they can be saved for the 27.5 rigid MTB in the near future and I'll fit either G-One Speed or the Thunder Burt.

Not the same fork but you remind me of the Fyxation fork which come in an array of steerer and thru axle/QR option, even for your Croix de Fer

@jambon I did the same. I used a similar part from an old 90s cantilever brake like below. Called a 'brake pad eye bolt'. Only issue is that they are longer than the rack ones and the thread does not go all the way up to the top so you need some spacers. But works fine.

Thanks for this, also good to know what these very specific things are actually called which can be half the battle. I ordered a lamp holder and will liberate the bolt thing from that, obviously paid over the odds but needed it for this weekend's ride.

That's pretty much exactly what I did with the Arkose whilst waiting for Gravel Kings on special order at the time. They were actually really fun, but no cigar.

Now you're asking for a tougher option. G-ones or the Burts! Tough call. I'm obsessed with both.

probably too big to fit on a pinnacle lithium with guards, sadly. Would be awesome fun to commute on, no doubt.

can @edscoble confirm? Q& A on evans lithium page says 50mm is the most they've managed to fit in there.

the biggest guards I know of are the honjo flat 65 which fit 2.2" and no more :/

Not sure if this is the proper thread to discuss the commuter bike choice, if not please direct me to the correct one ;)
I currently own Vitus Dee SS bike that serves as my commuter (changed brakes to BB7, installed mudguards and rack). I am tempted though to switch to something more road-oriented and make Vitus a proper SSMTB again. All the inexpensive hybrid bikes I am looking at, though, have alloy forks (I would prefer Alfine+belt for year-round reliability). Does fork material make a big difference in terms of ride comfort? Currently I have steel one in Vitus, could alternatively buy the whole Alfine and components and install to it.

If you’re looking at disc brakes, I doubt it. Disc brakes put a lot of force through forks and as such, whatever the material, they’re made much thicker and stronger therefore they’re all pretty stiff. If not discs then yeah probably steel or carbon would be marginally nicer. Tyres and pressure will make a bigger difference.

Currently running the g-ones in 2.35 on Genesis fortitude commuter, found M Part guards on eBay in 68mm that fit well. No idea about on a lithium though unfortunately.

G-One defintely more usable, Burts is definitely more usable off road, both cost similar, might go G-One as I had 2.3 on the Arkose and it just about clear it (meaning way too tight).

Rapid build when the time come, just not gonna wax lyrical over it, simple rigid 1x11 (or 12), and keep cost down, the most fun MTB I ever had was my old singlespeed Diamondback Mojito 29er
and I'm still super sad I sold it.

It definitely have huge clearance for 50mm, maybe 2.2 would fit, but can double check, here's an example with 50mm tyres;
