Just trying to digest this, it wasn't supposed to happen but I am so happy for Thomas and Wales. It's just a lovely feeling watching GT and seeing how happy he is. I mean he rode a flawless race, I don't think he crashed once either? He barely punctured even.

Dumoulin was excellent in his interview too, both happy for his win and congratulatory of GT. Excellent sportsmanship.

And a word for Doumoulin: imagine what he could have done if he had a really strong team behind him. I mean he rode that race on his own for the most part. He'll win the Tour soon.

Uh oh the montage has got me welling up
-
• #2981
Do you think Thomas will ride the Tour of Britain now? The crowds would be insane

Domming for Tao?
-
• #2983
It amazes me how Geraint Thomas has been able to ride an amazing race like this day after day for three weeks and yet Gareth Southgate will probably win SPOTY for wearing a pinstripe suit every now and again for two weeks.

Watched the end of the time trial at Excel at the bike exhibition, great atmosphere !

I read this message about bdw whilst sat in the crabtree having a solo pint. Gave me goosebumps.
Raised a glass to him DMC and fiddy. -

Well it depends if he wants to have a shot at the World's or ride the Vuelta as Froome has done as prep for the next season.
And likely he would do a turn for Tao since he rode for him on the way to his Dauphine win.
-

Thinking about the Dauphine, another winner that went on to win the Tour in the same year. Anyone know the number? It is a lot now.
-
• #2989
The big story is Egan Bernal - Tom rode another great race.
-
• #2990
Tbh, I expect Tao is still pencilled in for the Vuelta, though presumably now without his early-season tag team partner, Bernal.
I'd not be at all surprised to see Thomas ride Tour of Britain though... no pressure, lots of good PR for the team, and no __________/ Vuelta stage profiles, which maybe wouldn't be his idea of fun.

Tao is down to ride the Vuelta.

I hope Thomas aims for the Worlds, he’s the perfect rider for that course.

From Wikipedia
The Critérium du Dauphiné is the only race that was won by all the quintuple winners of the Tour de France, namely Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain. Nine racers have also won the race and the Tour de France in the same year: Louison Bobet in 1955, Jacques Anquetil in 1963, Eddy Merckx in 1971, Luis Ocaña in 1973, Bernard Thévenet in 1975, Bernard Hinault in 1979 and 1981, Miguel Indurain in 1995, Bradley Wiggins in 2012 and Chris Froome in 2013, 2015, and 2016. Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong won the race in 2002 and 2003, but was retroactively stripped of his titles in 2013, in the wake of the protracted doping scandal
So 10 now.

Really looking forward to the piss-whale Paris kit

I think the only other rider in my lifetime to have come in to their first TdF and performed like this is Jan Ullrich. I mean obvs, he was probably doped to the gills in hindsight, but at the time he was a total prodigy. Many of us on here were saying, just 6 weeks ago, it was too early for Bernal. And maybe it still is, young uns have that risk of burn out, but shit.... even his TT today shows he could potentially be winning it next year.

Some real, genuine emotions right there. Last time he cried was his wedding, he said. Not sure he knows how to process this right now.
