  • Lovely dark blue mx5 in Catford this evening.

    The one from on here?

  • Anyone looking for a project?

  • Bleughhh... my Discovery has shat itself once again and been despatched to the diesel engineers on a loader.

If this is really the final straw what do I replace it with? Low budget (£5-10,000) but don't care how old it is.

    30mpg
    Diesel
    Automatic
    Estate or SUV/ pickup
    Preference for 4wd/awd
    Reasonably plush a bonus.

  • You can get a decent 3 or 5 series 30d or 35d with xdrive for that money

  • Passat is very comfy with tonnes of boot space if that's important. For that money you could probably get a 5yo one.

  • My £1400 2003 525d

    Any more details? :)

  • I'm allergic to BMW after owning an absolute piece of shit E93 320D M-Sport that broke our hearts with unreliability and spendy issues.

That being said a 30/35d xDrive would possibly float my boat...

I've been ogling W211 E320 CDIs at the moment as a possibility (scratch that, road tax €1200 year on emissions)

@NurseHolliday road tax on private vehicles in Ireland is absolutely punitive so any estate (as opposed to an SUV which I could tax commercially) would have to be newer than 2008 when they changed the tax bands. 525tds would be €1080 a year to tax :(

  • Riddle me this:

  • Dildo sheath with integral hang eyelet.
    Porsche part no. 6969696969696969

  • Umbrella cover?

  • Indeed:

  • It's been discontinued for years and years, only come up every now and again. The brolly is so old that the handle had gone greasy/sticky, but that was cured with some Isopropyl alcohol.

  • So nifty. Presumably so one can keep one's carbon fibre track helmet dry when one bins one's GT3 in the gravel on a trackday?

Anyone have any thoughts on C350 CDI AMG Sport Wagon?

  • Everyone is expecting VED to get quite steep for derv in light of it's Nox issues, and for taxation on the fuel itself to go up - dunno if that's going to carry over to Ireland, but if so is a big diesel a wise move?

  • I've no idea, Ireland completely screwed us over in that they priced the market into diesel based on Co2 and made petrol unfeasibly expensive. It's so hard to predict if they'll make the u-turn into driving diesel out because almost everyone here drives a diesel car now!

I'd actually much rather a big petrol to be honest but I can't claim the VAT on petrol in Ireland for work while I can claim diesel (for now).

All I can do is go on current situation where diesel is an awful lot cheaper to run over here!

  • What would the VED situation be like for my C55?

  • Revenue VRT (VED) calculator doesn't have C55 on it of course.

A 50,000mile 2007 C63 would cost €1,685 to register here though which is actually quite reasonable. The only problem is you'd paying €1809/year for road tax and petrol is about €1.42/litre at the moment here not to mention the insurance companies would just laugh at you over here.

I do about 60,000km+ a year also so I couldn't justify putting petrol into a proper AMG at the moment unfortunately.

  • Yeah, that would be challenging. 20 mpg is what I get, which gives you a realistic range of 200 miles - sounds like you'd be filling up 8 times a day.

  • Looks like a smart warning triangle cover.

  • This. Get loads of people who winge about ved here, I think the UK is one of the most reasonable countries for this cost. A lot of Scandinavian regions are horrendous

  • Base price for a Golf GTI in Denmark is £55000...

  • What's the difference? Found a 79V near me and it looks pretty good, may pull the trigger sooner rather than later... Tho' my gf is now starting to backtrack, this is after moaning at me to get a car pretty much every day since we got here... There's no pleasing some people...

Also found a half decent Corolla Estate nearby, they're quite rare over here, but I can't get very excited about that...
