you just keep wrapping it. mate of mine did ghetto tubeless on his bmx about ten years ago like this, then ran 120 psi for street riding. he works at the hadron collider so I trust his judgement on these sorts of things, even if he did once break an ankle just walking through his house.

It held up to 120psi. That's when I stopped pumping in fear of blowing the tyres.

I broke my ankle walking through my mates backyard. I guess these things go hand in hand.

Hah - that's made my morning.

the line between genius and imbecile is as thin as the sub atomic particles the former works with.
Also definitely didn't mean to type something so close to hard-on collider

recommendations for a tubeless tire, 700c, between 42-50mm
for commutiing so don't mind some tread or weight - ideally supple but not too pricey

So I now know what happens to a tubeless tyre when you get a major puncture.
It sprays gunk everywhere, and if you slow down it then fills the hole, and you can carry on riding it.
Managed to go 10km on a gunk filled hole, and I'm surprised the gunk worked at all. The hole is about 1cm long and 1-2mm wide and it's very visible.
At least I got home. Just need to get new tyres now I guess.

:) i've still got a set of his ghettoed wheels on one of my bikes.

I think you're wrong.
Get puncture, spray gunk == buy new plush tyres.

Get puncture, spray gunk == buy new plush bike.
Damn right

1cm long and 1-2mm wide
Blimey.
Did you work out what caused it? A large piece of glass or a long screw perhaps?

Dunno.
There's no debris in it, just the cut.

Checked my bike two days ago to see if the rear tyre had decided to re-puncture while hung on the wall, as it tends to do. Both tyres holding c.15 psi after a few weeks of no use. Yesterday evening, went to prep ahead of club ride today.
Front tyre (38mm G-One) - previously v well behaved - was totally empty. I pumped it up and at around 40 psi it blew off the rim and spattered everything with very brown and unusually foul smelling sealant. I more or less got the tyre to seat again but anything over 20 psi and the bit of bead that blew off was clearly unhappy, seeping air and stuff.
The tyre was fitted at the start of July 2017, with sealant topped up every so often but tyre never removed. Tread was all good after 3250km (rear 35mm pretty fucked over the same mileage).
I don't really have a point or a question, but it was weird and annoying. Oh well, the rear was going in the bin anyway, may as well get a pair.

What rim, out of interest?

Halo Vapour XC, and the G-One Tubeless Easy, so everything is legit tubeless

Got a cut in the sidewall of my G-One Speed from a big pothole yesterday. I haven't looked too closely at the cut. A small worm seemed to just about seal it but it gave up overnight. So I might try either a big worm or some flexible superglue. Exciting times.

The AirShot is wonderful. Love that.
I had seated the tyre so badly that when I did the shot it bled enough air quickly enough for it to be visible... but then that pop sound! Perfect little thing.
Will try the pressure tomorrow to see if all is good, and if so head out for a ride :)
Good excuse to wash the bike too, all this faffing around cleaning the rims.
Oh... one thing (have not read the first post) are we supposed to refresh the rim tape? I just cleaned it and nothing more.

are we supposed to refresh the rim tape?
Only if it's in bad condition.

Thanks. It wasn't.

Anybody have experience of Schwalbe Pro One Evo MicroSkins, just bought a pair of 25mm for my giant TCR and they have come up more like 28 to 30mm tyres, is it just this tyre rim combination (SLR1 wheels) or is this normal for these tyres? Thanks.
Strong ghettoing - was never quite sure leccy tape could withstand the pressure and the environment. Guess it can.
