London to Paris: Route Advice

The advice in that post ^ is good:

-The D21 near Forges Les Eaux to Gournay En Bray was beautiful Picardy countryside, possibly passed 5 / 10 cars.

Def leave Avenue Verte at this section and pick it up after Gournay En Bray.

Okay, so need to do the Dover-Calais part this weekend and I was hoping someone could answer a couple of questions about the ferry.

1) Is it possible to just turn up as a bicycle without a booking and get on fairly easily?

2) If yes to the above, what is the approximate cost of an 'at the port' ticket?

Not too sure @joe95, best to call up - though I'd imagine it'll cost extra to rock up. We've booked our Newhaven crossing & wasn't complicated.

We're setting off Monday to follow the Hirsch Paris route. Is anyone able to offer wild swimming/wild camping spot along the way? or are we likely to get chased down by an angry French man or lady?

Actually any other must see/stop's along the way, we're taking it super slow maybe even 30k a day.

Coincidentally, I was also looking for some wild swimming in that part of France. There's a good book available to buy - at least according to reviews.

Just FYI for those doing the Calais ferry: its all very easy. The on the day price with DFDS from Dover to Calais was £25.00 and the on the day price for Calais to Dover with P&O was €39.00. I guess it was a little more expensive than booking but I didn't have to worry about missing a ferry.

Is still the donald hirsch way a good plan for a break-away weekend with my Mrs?
I was hoping to do this in 4 days as she is a bit new to "long cycling".
